Chicks Picks – Week Seven – 2013

Welcome to Week 7. The 2013 edition of the Stretch Run is here…that time of year when the regular season is winding down, but postseason implications are heating up.  Since this is a critical time of year, we at the MSA Sports Network always get together for a team-building workout to ensure our physical and mental clarity for the remainder of the season.This year, we decided to go with our old faithful—yoga—which had proven results for Team MSA time and time again.  The Boss talked up the event all week, hinting to his team that this year’s session would offer some added flair.  He certainly did not disappoint.

Hometown Volleyball Match Recap: Bethel Park Black Hawks 3 – WEST ALLEGHENY INDIANS 1

At West Allegheny High School the Bethel Park Blackhawks win a AAA Section 5 match over the West Allegheny Indians by a 3-1 match score.It was Dig Pink Nite at West A. The girls all wore tye dye warm ups with the statement "two teams, one cause" as the night was a way to raise funds for fighting breast cancer. Youth cheerleaders were in attendance and formed a gauntlet for the Indians as they were announced to the crowd, there were raffles, and bake sales and the whole West Allegheny community supported the cause.

MSA Sports Big Game Hunting – Week Six

Week six just like that and while everyone in town is thinking about baseball we need to focus on the stretch run as it is just around the corner for the WPIAL football season. It is time to start jockeying for position, wins for your team and for teams your team has already beaten become bigger and bigger now as you hope to convince the playoff seeding committee of your team’s worthiness. Take care of your business and it will matter not what others think or believe about your team. That is the best thing about high school football, we play it out, win and your ranking has no bearing whatsoever on your chance at the crown.

MSA Sports Big Game Hunting – Week Two

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Week one of the 2013 WPIAL football season showed a shining example of that statement, with a pair of defending champions in North Allegheny and Clairton, convincingly hushing the whispers that they were set to be declining in the current season due to graduation losses. Week two is chock full of delicious match-ups as well. The long holiday weekend is over, time to clean the grill, drain the pool, and go Big Game Hunting.

CTK 2013 – MSA SPORTS PRESEASON ELITE ELEVEN

The leading rusher and leading passer in the WPIAL are back this season – and also lead the MSA Sports preseason Elite 11 team. The Elite 11 is a list of the top elite players in the WPIAL heading into the 2013 season. It is picked by the MSA Sports staff and players are selected regardless of position. The leading rusher returning from last year is Washington’s Shai McKenzie. The leading passer is South Fayette quarterback Brett Brumbaugh. Brumbaugh is the only junior on the preseason Elite 11. This year’s Elite 11 also includes three players (Mike Grimm, Malik Hooker and Chase Winovich) who already have made commitments to Division I colleges, as well as other players who are being heavily recruited.

North Allegheny Survives Scare to Win 7th WPIAL AAA Boys Volleyball Title in a Row

In the WPIAL Boys AAA Volleyball Championship match the North Allegheny Tigers defeat the  Bethel Park Black Hawks by a 3-2 match score to win their 7th title in a row and their 10th in the last 11 years and 16th overall title.The Tigers took game one 25-17 and made it look easy. At 13-10 they went on a 12-4 run to win. Tommy Keisling the SR OH led the way with his power game.In game two it was close and tied 9-9 before Bethel Park would take control. NA fell apart mid game  as the Blackhawks went on an 8-3 run to go up 21-15. Camden Hay the SR OH came up big to lead the way and his kill gave BP a 5 point lead at 23-18 on their way to a 25-21 game two win to tie the match at 1-1.

North Allegheny and Ambridge AGAIN Rule the WPIAL Boys Volleyball World

In the movie 'Groundhog Day', Bill Murray kept waking up to February 2nd, no matter what happened on the previous day. That is how district boys volleyball teams must feel. They keep waking up and North Allegheny and Ambridge are wearing the gold. It was a titanic struggle, but North Allegheny captured its seventh Class AAA title in a row with a thrilling five game victory over Bethel Park. Meanwhile, Ambridge swept past Derry to win its second straight crown and the Bridgers fifth championship in the last six years. In the consolation matches Thursday, both Norwin and OLSH secured PIAA playoff berths with wins at Baldwin High School. Here are ALL the results from the 2013 WPIAL Boys Volleyball Playoffs.

Hometown Softball Program Game Recap For Baldwin vs Bethel Park

The 2013 WPIAL playoffs started a little early Thursday in the South Hills as Baldwin visited Bethel Park in a win-and-your-in battle for third place in Class AAAA Section 4. When all was said and done, youth was served again as the freshmen led Highlanders knocked out the Black Hawks 9-5.Baldwin broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when after Jaimie Schleicher reached on an error, Kayla Ebert's pop fly fell safely when Bethel Park second baseman Julia Sherwin lost it in the sun. Abbey Suhoski tripled home both, then scored on a ground ball to the shortstop.The Highlanders added to their lead in the fourth inning on the first of three triples by Eberst scored Breanna Meyer who led the inning off with a single.
