Defense Wins Girls AA Championship for Bishop Canevin
February 26, 2016
A couple of late regular season losses knock the team down to second place and a section title and top-seed also vanish. But as the #4-seed, the team gets hot and runs through the playoffs en-route to a WPIAL championship. Bishop Canevin fans are all too familiar with the above scenario as first the Crusaders girls volleyball team this fall, then the girls basketball team have followed the exact same path. Friday, the basketball team captured a second Class AA girls title in four years with a dominating 53-33 victory over the 14th-seed Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions at the Petersen Events Center. Bishop Canevin used a stifling defense to jump out to an 11-0 lead through a pair of Greensburg Central Catholic early time outs.

Scholastic Notebook – 01/17/2016
January 17, 2016
Maybe just call this a saga of Penn-manship. Jim Rocco resigned in the spring as the boys basketball coach at Penn Hills High School in order to become coach at Penn-Trafford. He is enjoying success at his new job. Dan DeRose took over for Rocco at Penn Hills. DeRose came to Penn Hills from South Park, and DeRose is enjoying success at his new job. So it’s two new coaches at two schools with Penn as the first name. This really is a Jim Dan-dy story. At Penn-Trafford, the Warriors are 10-4 under Rocco, who won two WPIAL titles and one PIAA championship in his 19 years at Penn Hills. Penn-Trafford is tied for second place in Class AAAA Section 1.

Chicks Picks – Week 10 – 2015
November 5, 2015

As a veteran prognosticator, Chick’s Picks has received countless commendations over the years.  None of these honors, however, were quite as prestigious as the one earned this week. Chick’s Picks received an anonymous phone call early Sunday morning.  The caller, a woman, told Chick’s Picks that her presence was requested by The Committee on Monday afternoon.  Confused, Chick’s Picks inquired further as to which committee the woman was referring.  The woman simply said, “Report to the Double Tree Hotel in Greentree at noon tomorrow.  Bring your crystal ball.  All of your questions will be answered there.”
