North Allegheny and Deer Lakes Win 2011 WPIAL Boys Volleyball Titles

For one school, it was just another gold trophy to add to their recent run, for another, it's a title that has been a long time coming. North Allegheny beat section rival Seneca Valley in four games to capture a fifth consecutive WPIAL boys volleyball title by winning the Class AAA championship Friday evening at Chartiers Valley High School.

2011 PIAA Singles and Doubles Tennis Results
It was a tough state tournament showing for WPIAL tennis players in both the PIAA Singles and PIAA Doubles Boys Tennis Tournaments. The only district player to make it through the Quarterfinals was WPIAL Class AA Singles chamion D.J. Goldblum of Winchester Thurston.

Its 2009 All Over Again as Mt. Lebanon and Hampton Earn 2011 WPIAL Boys Lacrosse Championships
Mount Lebanon and Hampton won the very first WPIAL boys lacrosse championships two years ago in 2009. After missing out last season, the gold rush continued for both the Blue Devils and Talbots in 2011. Both schools captured a second WPIAL boys lacrosse crown with tight victories Friday night at Chartiers Valley High School and here on the MSA Sports Network.

Two WPIAL baseball teams head into the Quarterfinals with undefeated records. Considering the past, it would be highly unusual if one of them wins the WPIAL title. Norwin is 17-0 and plays in the Class AAAA Quarterfinals Monday against Bethel Park. Elizabeth Forward is 18-0 and plays in the Class AAA Quarterfinals Monday against either Greensburg Salem or Central Valley.

Mt. Lebanon Nets AAA Gold While Sewickley Academy Wins 8th Straight WPIAL Boys AA Team Tennis Title

For the first time in 17 years, the Mount Lebanon boys tennis team is celebrating gold. The top-seed Blue Devils edged two-time defending champion Shady Side Academy in a match started Thursday and finished Friday due to rain. It is Mount Lebanon's record 18th WPIAL boys tennis title, but first since 1994.

Butler and Freeport are Golden in 2011 WPIAL Girls Track & Field Team Championships
The Butler girls track and field team are the golden girls...again! The Golden Tornado captured back-to-back WPIAL Girls Class AAA Team Track and Field crown by beating Hempfield, Norwin and Butler Thursday afternoon at West Mifflin High School. In the Class AA finals, Freeport took home the gold by beating out Mount Pleasant, Freedom and South Fayette.

The decision might come as a surprise to some because college interest was starting to pick up in Mason, who led the WPIAL in scoring last season at 33.3 points and scored 64 in one game. Butler University coach Brad Stevens came to watch Mason work out at Highlands last week and requested grade transcripts on Mason. No scholarship offer was made.

While most high school spring sports seasons are slowly kicking into gear, the first 'postseason' is already upon us. The field for both the Class AAA and Class AA WPIAL Boys Singles Tennis Championships was determined Friday with the sectional championship and consolation matches.

Mount Lebanon, Montour, Greensburg CC & Lincoln Park All Settle for Silver in PIAA Boys Basketball Playoffs
March 27, 2011
There is plenty of silver to be found in Southwestern Pennsylvania following the state basketball championships at Penn State University. Mount Lebanon in AAAA, Montour in AAA, Greensburg Central Catholic in AA and Lincoln Park in A all lost in the state finals in Happy Valley, three of them fell to District 12 powers while Mount Lebanon lost to the District 1 champs.
