Coaches Corner – Frank Zebrasky
May 29, 2017
In this feature titled "Coaches Corner", I will be interviewing a different coach every week and asking them questions about their personal life and about coaching. Hopefully their answers will not only shed some light on how they coach their respective teams, but also allow readers to get to know the men behind the fields/courts. This week features head baseball coach Frank Zebrasky of the Carlynton Cougars. Coach Zebrasky is in his rookie year with the Cougars after 7 successful seasons coaching Canon-Mac, in which he led them to the playoffs in the last three years. Led Carlynton to the playoffs this year, despite the Cougars having been absent from the playoffs since 2011. Let's take a look inside Coach Zebrasky's corner:

September 29, 2016
Welcome to Week 5 of the high school football season. Chick’s Picks spends more time than she would care to admit trolling Amazon for her next potential purchase.  Last week, Chick’s Picks stumbled upon a plethora of crystal balls.  Tempted by the allure of the shiny, new prognosticating tools, Chick’s Picks decided that a bit of research would not hurt. Her guilty conscience set in right away, as she struggled with the desire to upgrade her equipment despite more than 15 years of loyalty to her current crystal ball.  Chick’s Picks decided to consult an expert – The Boss.

September 17, 2016
Every Friday night, there are hard decisions to make to whittle down many of the great performances from around the WPIAL into our Top Ten HighLights package. But this Friday night was probably the toughest since it was the busiest night game wise of the entire 2016 season. Of the possible 61 WPIAL football games, 60 were played on 9/16, thus the difficult becomes even more so. Here's what we came up with on a pleasant evening weather wise for the Week Three HighLights. CTK ’16: 2-A Three Rivers Conference Preview
August 26, 2016
The Three Rivers Conference was demolished after 1999, just two years before Three Rivers Stadium was demolished. But the Three Rivers Conference has come back to life. With six classifications in Pennsylvania football this year, new conferences were formed in the WPIAL. The eight teams in this Class 2A section decided to call themselves the Three Rivers Conference. The funny thing is, only one team (Carlynton) that is a member of the Three Rivers this season also was in the last Three Rivers Conference in 1999. Here is a look at the new Three Rivers Conference: AVONWORTH ANTELOPES The Antelopes will look a lot different this year. Why? Because they don’t have a quarterback who set a WPIAL record last season.

But that didn't stop both teams from putting on a thriller at Brentwood High School as the host Spartans prevailed 3-2 over the Cougars. The Spartans got off to a fast start in Game 1 with a 5-0 run thanks to the service game of junior Molly Huffman.  Brentwood continued to dominate the first game, leading by as many as 11 points.  Even near the end of that first game, however, the momentum started to shift toward Carlynton.  Despite being outscored, 9-3, the Spartans still won Game 1, 25-20.

CTK 2015 – Class AA Century Conference Preview
August 23, 2015
In both 2013 and 2014, South Fayette not only reigned supreme over the Century Conference, but over the entire state of Pennsylvania in Class AA. The back-to-back PIAA champion Lions lost the catalyst to their dynamic offense, though, as Brett Brumbaugh has moved on to the next level. While the Lions still return an array of contributors with a championship pedigree, will they have enough to fend off the challenges of last year’s playoff qualifying teams like Seton-La Salle and Steel Valley, both of which boast top college prospects? Moreover, South Park, which finished in third last season, faces a number of questions after the Eagles longtime coach moved on from the program.

Scholastic Notebook – 04/10/2015
April 10, 2015
Beaver Falls High School is trying to make sure the school’s 1975 baseball team won’t be forgotten. At a baseball game in two weeks, the ’75 team that won a WPIAL title will be honored before a Beaver Falls game. No one is quite ready to call this year’s Beaver Falls team championship caliber, but the Tigers are doing a pretty good job of grabbing some attention for themselves. It’s still extremely early in the WPIAL baseball season, but Beaver Falls is 3-0. That might not sound like much, but considering the past few years, it is a gigantic step forward for Beaver Falls.
