Big Game Hunting – Week Six
October 4, 2017
There was a bit of a shocker last week in 1-A with Imani knocking off Clairton. Maybe not everyone was stunned that the Saints were able to knock off the Bears, but short five kids who were suspended made it was quite an accomplishment and a signature win for Imani. The other top ranked teams […]

CTK ’17 – 1-A Tri-County South Conference Preview
August 25, 2017
The Tri-County South Conference has been much maligned over the years for its lack of success in winning WPIAL playoff games. But the Tri-County South this year features a running back with more than 4,000 career yards rushing and a 6-foot-4 quarterback who had nearly 2,000 yards offense last season. Suffice it to say there […]

Chicks Picks for Week Eight
October 20, 2016
Welcome to Week 8 of the high school football season. The Stretch Run is upon us.  It’s that magical time of year when postseason positions are secured, and the sheep are separated from the goats. Speaking of sheep and goats – each year during the Stretch Run, Chick’s Picks organizes a group fitness activity for the entire MSA Sports crew.  Chick’s Picks believes this team-building exercise plays a crucial role in getting the gang ready for the playoffs.  This year, Chick’s Picks selected Animal Flow as the group activity of choice – a new fitness craze which teaches animal movement training.

Big Game Hunting for Week One 2016
August 31, 2016
Big Game Hunting gets bigger! Nothing wrong with that, right? 2016 and our weekly four-pack gets rounded out to an actual 6-pack. While I am not a fan yet of six classifications; I am willing to give it a try and I am a huge fan of six-packs. When someone shows up at your door and they have a six-pack, they are automatically your friend. Well in 2016 I will be showing up at your door with a six-pack every week, so that will make us friends. That’s a good thing and so is more football talk, and so is researching and writing about 150% of the games for the same amount of money right? Er…. Without further ado, let’s for the first time in 2016, go Big Game Hunting!

CTK ’16: 1-A Tri-County South Conference Preview
August 29, 2016
Frazier gave the much-maligned Tri-County South Conference some respect last season. The Commodores were undefeated until losing in the WPIAL semifinals to Clairton. A new year brings new classifications in the WPIAL and a slightly altered Tri-County South Conference. Frazier is gone. So is Beth-Center. So is Bentworth. All three of them are now in Class 2A under the state’s new six-class sytem. Six members of the Tri-County South last year stayed in the conference. Monessen and Fort Cherry are new this year. There doesn’t seem to be a prohibitive favorite to win the conference. Some expect Monessen to be the frontrunner, but the Greyhounds lost a Week 0 game to Charleroi last Friday. Carmichaels, Jefferson-Morgan and Avella have experienced teams returning.

Scholastic Notebook – 11/06/2015
November 6, 2015
The WPIAL football playoffs start Friday night. Does that mean the Tri-County South Conference turns into the Tri-County Sour bunch once again? The Tri-County South in Class A hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2010 season. Since then, Tri-County South teams are 0-16 in the postseason. But maybe there is hope to end the postseason drought this year. Frazier finished the regular season with a 9-0 record and the Commodores were given the No. 4 seed. Frazier led the entire WPIAL in fewest points allowed this season and it plays host to South Side in a first-round game.
