Joe Dunn was known as one of the good guys among WPIAL basketball coaches. But that fraternity is now minus one good guy. Dunn resigned as Trinity High School’s boys coach last week. He wouldn’t rule out returning to coaching someday, but for now, he wants to spend more time with his family. Dunn and his wife have two daughters and a son. Dunn has been coaching for 26 years and had other successful coaching stints at Mount Pleasant and Seton-LaSalle. Dunn became pretty good at taking down programs and turning them into more than respectable. He did it at Mount Pleasant and he did it at Trinity, where he was coach since 2001.MSA Sports Top Ten – WPIAL Baseball – 03/28/2012

Derry Area wrestler Jimmy Gulibon is in Hershey this weekend, trying to make history. The Derry senior is trying to become only the 10th wrestler in Pennsylvania to win four state titles. If Gulibon wins, this one would probably mean the most, simply because of what he overcame this season. Flash back to late December, when Gulibon was wrestling in the finals of the Powerade Tournament. He won, but sustained a left knee injury. Gulibon, and some others, thought the injury might be serious. They thought it might be an ACL tear. “He was very scared because he never even really had an injury before,” said Derry coach Mike Weinell. “We didn’t know at the time how serious it was. Jimmy just knew he couldn’t do what he does. He couldn’t push off his foot or his leg.”2012 PIHL Open Class High School Hockey Playoffs

While PIHL Class AAA, Class AA and Class A teams are in the final two weeks of the long regular season, the Open Class teams have already dropped the puck on their postseason tournaments. The Nailers Cup is down to the Final Three while the championship game is set in the battle for the Chiefs Cup after the top two seeds were eliminated in the Semifinals.
