Chicks Picks for Week Nine

Welcome to Week 9 of the high school football season. As regular season play wraps up, Chick’s Picks knew that she needed to check in on The Boss at MSA Sports World Headquarters.  For quite some time, Chick’s Picks had been aware of the overtime put in by The Boss this time of year.  However, what she witnessed when she walked into World Headquarters was still a shock. There he was, The Boss, pecking away at his keyboard relentlessly with his two index fingers.  Moments later, when The Boss finally realized that he had a visitor, Chick’s Picks noticed his tired, bloodshot eyes, unkempt hair, and disorder throughout his office.

Chartiers-Houston Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap
October 19, 2016
Prior to Chartiers-Houston’s Class 1A Section 3 matchup with Burgettstown at home Tueday, Oct. 18, the Lady Bucs took a step back to honor the seniors on the team on Senior Night. Chartiers-Houston recognized the two seniors on the roster for Burgettstown, Claudia Werner, who didn’t play in the match due to injury, as well as Paige Sherman. Then the attention turned to the three honorees for the Lady Bucs, Raven George, Macie Kesneck and Jala Youngblood-Walker.

Big Game Hunting for Week Four 2016

Welcome to week four of the WPIAL football season. Upon the conclusion of this week's games we will have played exactly as many weeks of regular-season football as will remain. Yes, half way already. Football is like a really good chili-cheeseburger, before you realize it, and have time to really savor it, you’re almost done with it. I double checked that information with in-house MSA Sports Network Chili Cheeseburger Expert Robert “Bobby O” Orkwis before I just threw it out there and he did confirm. Week four and we start to see some separation, finding out who are the contenders and who are the pretenders continues as we go Big Game Hunting!

Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap
September 20, 2016
With the re-classification of girl’s volleyball for the 2016 season, the Chartiers Houston Buccaneers find themselves in a section with both Fort Cherry and defending WPIAL Champion and PIAA Champion Bishop Canevin, on top of losing its best player, Kylee Levers to the Pitt Panthers’ volleyball squad, and two other key pieces from last year’s section champion squad. Going into play Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Lady Bucs were 3-1 in section 3 of 1A and set for a battle with the previously 2-2 Brentwood Spartans. In each section contest this season for the Lady Bucs, the final of the match has been in straight sets and Tuesday evening was no different, only it resulted in Chartiers-Houston (3-2) falling by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-21 to Brentwood (3-2).

CTK ’16: 2-A Century Conference Preview

The Century Conference has been dominated lately by South Fayette, which won four consecutive conference championships from 2012-15. But there will no longer be a roar of the Lions in the Century. With the new six-classification system, there is still a Century Conference. But South Fayette no longer is part of it. South Fayette is now part of Class 4A. So there will be a new champion this year. Almost everyone points toward Washington as the team that will win it. West Greene Rolls Past Char-Houston for First Ever WPIAL Softball Title
June 3, 2016
West Greene's Freshman centerfielder, McKenna Lampe, was confident at the beginning of the season that the young Pioneers could claim WPIAL softball gold for the first time ever. On Friday morning at California University's Lilley Field, dreams became a reality for West Greene (23-1) as they ran away with the WPIAL Class A Championship with a 12-3 win over Chartiers-Houston (14-8). The coin flip was the only thing that went wrong for the Pioneers on this day, as they were forced to bat first following the toss. But West Greene did not let that effect the way they played, as they started early. Madison Lampe singled with one out in the first and later scored virtue of a Bailey Benninger double to right center to start the scoring.

2016 WPIAL Softball Championship Preview

The WPIAL softball championships have a trio of new faces this year. The championships will be played Friday at California University of Pa.’s Lilly Field and three of the eight participants have never been so close to WPIAL gold medals. Mount Pleasant, West Allegheny and West Greene are all making their first appearances in a championship game. Meanwhile, Hempfield, Baldwin, Ellwood City, South Park and Chartiers-Houston have all won at least one championship before. The games were rained out Thursday and rescheduled for Friday. Here is a look at each championship: CLASS AAAA: The game: Baldwin (13-3) vs. Hempfield (20-2), 2:30 p.m.

Hometown Softball Recap – Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers – 04/29/2016

Chartiers-Houston used timely hitting and a strong pitching performance to topple section for Jefferson-Morgan to take control of second place in section 1-A with an 8-2 victory over the Rockets. With the win. Chartiers-Houston secured a season-sweep over last season's District 7 champions. Jefferson-Morgan beat the Bucs 3-2 in the WPIAL title game last season.  Char-Houston sophomore Kaitlyn Dittrich held the Rockets without a hit through the first four innings, and the Bucs opened up a lead thanks to a two-out three-run homer run by junior Kayla Alderson in the third inning.  Sophomore Jessica Ford doubled home courtesy runner Macie Shober in the fourth to extend the Bucs advantage to 4-0.
