Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Chartiers-Houston

The Buccaneers of Chartiers-Houston took the victory in straight sets (25-11, 25-23, 25-23) over the Avella Eagles Tuesday night. Led by head coach Sean Cleary, the Lady Bucs were able to win all three games despite some sloppy play at times. In the beginning, it was a one-sided match. Avella had some communication problems and Char-Houston took advantage. Lex Tatano provided the offense with her powerful serve taking the team on a 6 point and 8 point run.  The Bucs took care of business, yet games two and three were a different story.

CTK ’14: WPIAL A Black Hills Conference Preview

Look at the makeup of the Black Hills Conference and the name doesn’t seem to fit any more. With the WPIAL’s realignment for this year, the Black Hills changed drastically. A name like the old Ohio Valley Conference might have been more appropriate. But some of the coaches in this conference let it be known that they still wanted to be called the Black Hills. So, Black Hills it is By any name, this conference figures to be highly competitive. Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic, the defending WPIAL and PIAA champ, is everyone’s team to beat. Hometown Softball Broadcast Recap for Chartiers-Houston on 5/7/14

It took over 48 hours, but Chartiers-Houston (10-6, 8-4) was finally able to take down Fort Cherry by a 15-0 score in a three inning mercy rule win on Wednesday at Allison Park Elementary School Field. The game, which was started on Monday and finished on Wednesday due to lightning and heavy rain, saw the Bucs draw 15 walks and have 4 batters hit by pitches. Kassie Kesneck picked up the win for Chartiers-Houston, going three innings, while surrendering only two hits, striking out three and walking just one batter. Kesneck was also one of four players to record multiple runs batted in at the plate.

Scholastic Notebook – 05/02/2014

There are multi-sport athletes in the WPIAL who compete in more highly-visible sports than North Hills’ Noah Bostick. But as far as the number of sports and excelling in them, Bostick has few peers. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say Bostick is most one of the best all-around athletes in the WPIAL. He is a young man for all seasons – and then some. You don’t see many three-sport athletes these days at large schools. But Bostick is more than a three-sport athlete. He actually competes in four sports, and does well in all of them.

Football is only four months away and basketball ended only last month. But the coaching wheels are turning in both sports. There were a number of coaching moves this week in the WPIAL, some of them noteworthy. Here are some coaching happenings this week. In football: * Deer Lakes turned to a former NFL player as its new coach. Steve Sciullo takes over a team that did not win a game last season. Sciullo graduated from Shaler in 1988 and then played at Marshall before playing offensive line in the NFL for a few seasons. He has been an assistant coach at Hampton. * Norwin hired Dave Brozeski. He has been an assistant at Norwin for the past 17 years.

Hometown Softball Broadcast Recap for Chartiers-Houston on 4/17/14

Dominant in every facet of the game, host Chartiers-Houston cruised to a 14-0 victory against Washington at Allison Park Elementary School on Thursday. The Lady Bucs scored multiple runs in each of the four innings they batted, and pitcher Kassie Kesneck tossed a complete-game shutout. With the triumph, Chartiers-Houston remains third in Class AA Section 2 with a 5-3 mark (7-5 overall). Washington falls to 1-6 in section play (1-7 overall).

Hometown Softball Program Salute – CHARTIERS-HOUSTON BUCCANEERS

Chartiers-Houston had another successful campaign last season in their first year of AA competition, finishing 19-2 and making it to the WPIAL Semifinals.  However, with over half of last year's starters are not in the lineup this season as a young Buccaneers team looks to improve and learn quickly as they compete for a playoff spot in a competitive Class AA Section 2.

Chicks Picks – Week Nine – 2013

Welcome to Week 9. After nearly a decade of dominating fantasy football leagues, Chick’s Picks decided to throw her hat into fantasy hockey, hoping for at least a bit of a challenge.  While her league mates spent weeks researching and preparing for the draft, Chick’s Picks sat back and chuckled, knowing her prized crystal ball was the only research she needed.Draft day was finally here.  Chick’s Picks packed up her crystal ball and headed to meet the gang at league headquarters.  It was no surprise to see the gaggle of league mates in line awaiting her autograph when she arrived.  Chick’s Picks is, after all, kind of a big deal around the WPIAL.

MSA Sports Big Game Hunting – Week Seven

What a neat year it has already been. The Pirates reached the playoffs and it appears so will the Avella Eagles and the West Shamokin Wolves! All three are tremendous stories this fall. The stretch run is here and all of those teams control their own destinies. That is all their fans have been hoping and praying for. Some teams don’t control their own fate. Some need help, and some need a lot of help. The time has come for scoreboard watching and more importantly listening to the MSA Sports Scoreboard show every Friday night with Don Rebel. Hometown Volleyball Match Recap: CHARTIERS-HOUSTON BUCCANEERS 3- Avella Eagles 0
The Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers (3-7 in section play) hosted the Avella Eagles (2-8) in a late season section matchup on a cool Tuesday night in October. The Bucs came out with a solid 3-0 victory to add another win to their section resume.The first game stayed close the entire time with each team trading barbs back and forth for a quite a while. At one point in the game, both teams were tied 11-11. This proved to be an important part in this game and each one after. All 3 games saw this 11-11 similarity and that was the point where the Bucs took over. Sophomore right side hitter and co-captain Kylee Levers led the way with a team high 6 kills in game one. She also added an ace in service to catapult the Bucs to an early 1-0 lead.
