A perfect first weekend of state playoff action for the WPIAL teams gives us another full slate of big games as we get set for the PIAA semi-final round. All sixteen games are in the books from Quarterfinals Weekend and all four WPIAL champions are now headed to the state Semifinals. North Allegheny beat State College for the fourth time in just over 14 months on Saturday afternoon while Montour needed a big comeback to advance as both Aliquippa and Clairton cruised to victories, including the 45th consecutive win for the Bears.PIAA Football Quarterfinals Recaps 2011

So far so good for the District 7 champions in the PIAA Football Playoffs as all four teams swept their way through to the Final Four. Montour in AAA had to come way back from a big early deficit but survived to move on Friday, while North Allegheny in AAAA, Aliquippa in AA and Clairton in A enjoyed eScholastic Notebook – 12/02/2011

If you look back at what made this a WPIAL championship season for the Montour football team, there were a number of factors. After four weeks of somewhat predictable and at times thrilling football, the Highway to Heinz has officially been shut down to allow four teams to celebrate and parade around with their new golden crowns. Eight teams that have navigated their way quite nicely to a game at Heinz Field.
