March 27, 2013
Another great year is in the books for the 2012-2013 high school wrestling season. The WPIAL provided a lot of excitement throughout the year, but it was Canon-McMillan in Class AAA and Burrell in AA that continued to rewrite history. Canon-McMillan not only won its record fourth consecutive WPIAL Class AAA team championship, but the Big Macs also won their second straight PIAA dual meet team championship and third straight PIAA individual tournament team championship. WPIAL Week Nine Friday Night HighLights
October 27, 2012
Some of the games held great meaning in the district playoff picture, others were just playing for pride. Whether there was intense pressure or with very little at stake, here are the Primetime Performances from the final Friday of the regular season in the WPIAL.Patrick Turner - Kiski Area2012 has been the year of the great turn-around for several programs in the WPIAL, including that of Kiski Area. Patrick Turner helped complete the comeback season, rushing for 101 yards and scoring four touchdowns on three runs and a 61-yard fumble return for a score as the Cavalier, 1-8 in 2011, improved to 4-5 this season by clinching a Class AAAA Foothills Conference playoff spot with a 41-14 victory over the host Latrobe Wildcats.

The storylines are many as the WPIAL football season kicks off tonight. But is there a storyline with more irony than the Springdale at West Shamokin game? There is the new guy taking over for one of the winningest coaches in WPIAL history, and his first game is against a team with a historical losing streak. Dave Leasure will be in his first game as Springdale’s head coach. He takes over for Chuck Wagner, who retired last season after 47 years as a high school head coach in the WPIAL (Oakmont, Riverview, Fox Chapel and Springdale high schools). Wagner retired with a record of 270-202-11, and the 270 wins are fourth on the all-time list.

CTK 2012 – WPIAL AA Century Conference Preview
August 21, 2012
Two years ago, South Fayette was the king of the Century Conference and ended up as the golden boys in the end with a WPIAL championship to show for their efforts. Last year, it was Seton-LaSalle that was perfect through the regular season until their hopes of a district title ended with a Semifinals loss to Jeannette.Who will rise to the top in what has been one of the more balanced conferences in the WPIAL here in 2012?There was some off-season tweaking as the conference grew from eight to nine teams for the next two autumns. The Washington Little Prexies have returned to the Class AA Interstate Conference while a pair of teams move down as both the South park Eagles and the McGuffey Highlanders come into the conference from the Class AAA Big Eight Conference.

Joe Dunn was known as one of the good guys among WPIAL basketball coaches. But that fraternity is now minus one good guy. Dunn resigned as Trinity High School’s boys coach last week. He wouldn’t rule out returning to coaching someday, but for now, he wants to spend more time with his family. Dunn and his wife have two daughters and a son. Dunn has been coaching for 26 years and had other successful coaching stints at Mount Pleasant and Seton-LaSalle. Dunn became pretty good at taking down programs and turning them into more than respectable. He did it at Mount Pleasant and he did it at Trinity, where he was coach since 2001.
