While there was plenty of gold in WPIAL soccer and volleyball being won, there was no gold to be had in the 2012 PIAA Cross-Country championships Saturday at Hershey Park.One of two medalists from District 7 was Shaler sophomore Brianna Schwartz, the 2012 WPIAL champion who finished second to Marissa Sheva of Pennridge with a time of 18:39 in the Girls Class AAA state championship. Mary Malone of North Hills finished in 4th place in the same race.The Mount Lebanon Blue Devils ended up finishing in fifth place in the Girls Class AAA team standings.Uniontown senior Julie Friend, the 2012 WPIAL Class AA champ, finished in fourth place in the Girls Class AA race with a time of 19:32. Some of the games held great meaning in the district playoff picture, others were just playing for pride. Whether there was intense pressure or with very little at stake, here are the Primetime Performances from the final Friday of the regular season in the WPIAL.Patrick Turner - Kiski Area2012 has been the year of the great turn-around for several programs in the WPIAL, including that of Kiski Area. Patrick Turner helped complete the comeback season, rushing for 101 yards and scoring four touchdowns on three runs and a 61-yard fumble return for a score as the Cavalier, 1-8 in 2011, improved to 4-5 this season by clinching a Class AAAA Foothills Conference playoff spot with a 41-14 victory over the host Latrobe Wildcats.Brent Kennedy of Kiski, Tyler Rigby of South Park & Ryan Archer of Vincentian Win WPIAL Boys X-Country Titles

Welcome to Week 3 of the high school football season. After a brutal first two weeks, Chick’s Picks decided that a vacation was a must before the bulk of conference play gets underway.
