The final third of the regular season gets underway Friday night here on the MSA Sports Network. Several teams have already clinched playoff spots and the stretch-run will be a lot about positioning yourself for a good seed and a playoff push towards Heinz Field. This week in Big Game Hunting we get the rarest of the rare, as a pair of number ones will square off in Imperial. Here at MSA Sports, we like to spread the wealth when it comes to shining our spotlight. It seems some players shine for top teams each and every week. Sure, we will acknowledge their greatness, but we also like to tip our cap to those players and teams that are not steady contributors in each week to the 'W' column around the WPIAL. The Gateway Gators have finished first or second in the Foothills Conference for six consecutive seasons. Don’t look for Gateway near the top of the conference this year. That’s because Gateway is no longer in the conference. The Gators dropped from Class AAAA to AAA for this season. The Foothills Conference, though, still has nine teams. Plum was moved from the Southeastern to the Foothills. McKeesport is the defending conference champion. The Tigers lost a number of key players, but still should be in the top of the conference. The Quarterfinals are in the books and now we hop back onto the Highway to Heinz for one last stop before reaching our destination. The Semifinals provide terrific matchups, but the Quarterfinals were not too shabby themselves. To the victors go the spoils. Or in the case of the WPIAL football playoffs...to the victors goes a spot on Quarterfinals Friday. Round One is on the books on this years ride on the Highway to Heinz as 32 teams prevailed and live to fight another day for the gold at the end of the rainbow which splashes down at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh in three weeks. Sometimes the first postseason win is a walk in park or a fight to the bitter end. Welcome to Week 9. After nearly a decade of dominating fantasy football leagues, Chick’s Picks decided to throw her hat into fantasy hockey, hoping for at least a bit of a challenge. While her league mates spent weeks researching and preparing for the draft, Chick’s Picks sat back and chuckled, knowing her prized crystal ball was the only research she needed.Draft day was finally here. Chick’s Picks packed up her crystal ball and headed to meet the gang at league headquarters. It was no surprise to see the gaggle of league mates in line awaiting her autograph when she arrived. Although much has already been decided week nine of the 2013 WPIAL football season brings us all the sweetness you might expect with regard to conference championship tilts. It also has a fair share of win and you are in games. It also has some games that will have a huge impact come seeding time for the football steering committee. There is undoubtedly more passing in high school football these days. But after two weeks, could this be the year of runners in WPIAL football?While WPIAL football again has some impressive passers, the running statistics have been big through the first two weeks. Take a look:*It’s considered a nice night when a team has two 100-yard rushers in a game. It is extremely unusual when a team has two 200-yard rushers. But there have been two teams (Penn Hills and Steel Valley) that have had two 200-yard rushers in a game – and they did it on the same night (last Friday).*Penn Hills’ Billy Kisner has rushed for 200 yards in two consecutive games – and he’s a QUARTERBACK.Saturdays Scholastic Starz for Week Two

On a gorgeous Saturday afternoon for high school football, nine district teams took to the field in an effort to keep the high school offense going that began on Thursday and continued big time on Friday. For the most part, those teams did no t disappoint as six of the nine scores 20 points or more.
