Shaler, Blackhawk, Seton-LaSalle and North Catholic Are Golden Girls in 2011 WPIAL Girls Basketball

Mount Lebanon and Jeannette entered championship weekend searching for more gold. The Blue Devils won WPIAL AAAA crowns in 2009 and 2010 while the Jayhawks captured AA gold last winter. But there would be no repeats in 2011. Shaler knocked out Mount Lebanon to win their second girls title and first in 31 years.

Running for 4,000 career yards isn't as rare as it used to be. Forty-seven players have done it in WPIAL history, and 40 of them have reached the mark since 1990. But when North Allegheny's Alex Papson reached 4,000 yards last week, it was a rare feat, at least when you consider the competition.

CTK 2010 – WPIAL AA ALLEGHENY Conference Preview

Allegheny Conference teams won't have to "get real" so fast this season. Over the past two seasons, the Allegheny has consisted of 10 teams, which meant all teams started playing conference games the first night of the season. There were no non-conference games. Everything was real from the get-go.
