Chicks Picks – Week Seven – 2013

Welcome to Week 7. The 2013 edition of the Stretch Run is here…that time of year when the regular season is winding down, but postseason implications are heating up. Since this is a critical time of year, we at the MSA Sports Network always get together for a team-building workout to ensure our physical and mental clarity for the remainder of the season.This year, we decided to go with our old faithful—yoga—which had proven results for Team MSA time and time again. The Boss talked up the event all week, hinting to his team that this year’s session would offer some added flair. He certainly did not disappoint.

Now in their second year in Class AAA, the West Allegheny Indians look forward to competing for a playoff spot in this 2013 season.The Indians returned 4 starters, led by all WPIAL junior setter Tara Savisky. "Tara is in my opinion the best setter in the WPIAL and a fantastic competitor", said head coach Brian Begor.Also leading the charge Is senior Alexi Hamm who has worked very hard to develop into a quality player. Also playing key roles are seniors Jenna Reilly, Lizzie Murn, and juniors Rachel Buck and Nicole Ostrander. Sophomore Alyssa Placha continues to improve every day in the libero position and sisters Sam and Lauren Schaupp have provided some good play in serving and defensive roles.
Hometown Volleyball Match Recap: Bethel Park Black Hawks 3 – WEST ALLEGHENY INDIANS 1

At West Allegheny High School the Bethel Park Blackhawks win a AAA Section 5 match over the West Allegheny Indians by a 3-1 match score.It was Dig Pink Nite at West A. The girls all wore tye dye warm ups with the statement "two teams, one cause" as the night was a way to raise funds for fighting breast cancer. Youth cheerleaders were in attendance and formed a gauntlet for the Indians as they were announced to the crowd, there were raffles, and bake sales and the whole West Allegheny community supported the cause.WPIAL Plays of the Week – Week Five 2013

It was a clean sweep for the month of September weather wise as for the fourth straight Friday and the fifth overall, the weather was outstanding for high school football around Western Pennsylvania. When you settle in and listen to the halftime show featuring Don Rebel and Professor White this Friday, we will have reached the exact halfway point of the 2013 WPIAL football season. It’s true, it goes by faster than a Pittsburgh Steelers offensive possession. At West Allegheny High School in Hometown Volleyball action the West Allegheny Indians win a hard fought game with section rival the Montour Spartans by a 3-0 match score. Crazy...kooky...strange...horror. Those are all word that are usually associated with Friday the 13th. With a chill in the air, those words came to life on the football fields around Southwestern Pennsylvania with some strange results and some serious injuries. There is undoubtedly more passing in high school football these days. But after two weeks, could this be the year of runners in WPIAL football?While WPIAL football again has some impressive passers, the running statistics have been big through the first two weeks. Take a look:*It’s considered a nice night when a team has two 100-yard rushers in a game. It is extremely unusual when a team has two 200-yard rushers. According to the weather folks; this Friday night will feel like fall, as we get set for week three. Let’s you and I have a little top-ten party for this week’s version of the football four-pack. As always with the recent re-alignment there is no shortage of big games in each of the classifications. But, week three presents a little extra, not just big, conference games but also, big games featuring both participants as ranking in the MSA Sports Top Ten as complied by the MSA team.
