CTK 2015 – MSA Sports Preseason ELITE ELEVEN

The Pittsburgh Central Catholic football team is being touted as one of the top 25 teams in the country in some national polls. The strength of the Vikings can be seen on this year’s MSA Sports Elite 11 team. Central Catholic has two players on this year’s preseason Elite 11 – Damar Hamlin and David Adams. Central Catholic is the only team with two players on the Elite 11. The team is made up of the top 11 players in the WPIAL, regardless of position, and is picked by the MSA Sports staff. Hamlin, a senior, and Adams, a junior, are both being recruited heavily by major colleges. But Central Catholic has a handful of other players with scholarship offers from Division I-A colleges.Woodland Hills Mike Krivi Wins WPIAL Rifle Title

In a span of 48-hours, Woodland Hills senior sharp shooter Mike Krivi became the golden boy on the range. After helping the wolverines win a second straight district team championship on Tuesday, Krivi won the individual title Thursday at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg. Krivi was one of 18 shooters to score a 200, but claimed the gold after hitting 19 bulls-eyes. In doing so, he becomes the first Woodland Hills shooter to win the individual crown. Krivi finished 10th in last years WPIAL finals. Woodland Hills High School claimed their second straight district rifle championship and third in the last four years by registering a perfect score of 800 Tuesday afternoon in the 2015 WPIAL Team Rifle Finals at the Dormont-Mt.Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg. The team score of 800 (69x) was the second highest score in the WPIAL Team Championship history, just behind the record set by the Wolverines last year of 800 (74x). Two other schools registered perfect scores as Trinity finished second with a score of 800 (64x) and McGuffey was third with an 800 (56x). 2013 champion Hempfield finished fourth with a score of 799 while Butler (797) and Waynesburg (795) finished fifth and sixth respectively.2015 National Letter of Intent Day – Division I-A Football Players from WPIAL

Welcome to Week 9 of the high school football season. Every so often, Chick’s Picks has a run in with an internet heckler, one who enjoys stirring up some healthy banter over predictions that are not necessarily agreed upon. This occurred last week on Twitter, regarding one particular big-game pick. The loyal reader’s taunting began shortly after Chick’s Picks was posted on Thursday, calling out the prognosticator for what was deemed a terrible prediction. The final third of the regular season gets underway Friday night here on the MSA Sports Network. Several teams have already clinched playoff spots and the stretch-run will be a lot about positioning yourself for a good seed and a playoff push towards Heinz Field. This week in Big Game Hunting we get the rarest of the rare, as a pair of number ones will square off in Imperial. At the rate he is passing, Pine-Richland quarterback Ben DiNucci has a good chance to become the 17th player in WPIAL history to throw for 5,000 career yards. While that is an impressive feat, Pine-Richland does thro the ball often. So DiNucci will naturally pile up yardage. What might be more impressive about DiNucci is his accuracy. DiNucci is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior who you probably wouldn’t want to play in darts. Sure, in Pine-Richland’s spread offense, DiNucci throws a number of short passes. They haven’t exactly beaten world-class competition, but Norwin is still 2-0. After tonight, the Knights could be in a spot where they haven’t been in 15 years. Norwin plays at Seneca Valley in a non-conference game. While Seneca Valley (0-2) is trying to find itself, Norwin is trying to go 3-0 for the first time in 15 years. The last time Norwin was 3-0 was 1999, one of the greatest seasons in Norwin history. The Knights finished 8-4 and made it to the WPIAL semifinals before losing to Cecil Howard and McKeesport.
