Thrower Logan Kerstetter, runner Jake McGhee win county titles for Penn-Trafford

Penn-Trafford senior Logan Kerstetter walked away from the Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association Track and Field Championships on April 24 with three medals and an MVP award in the field events.
The reigning WPIAL Class 3A javelin champion won the javelin for the second consecutive season, earned a silver medal for placing second in the discus and took fifth in the shot put.
His throw in the javelin was 176 feet, 2 inches. In the discus, he threw 142-1 and in the shot, 44-5.
“My throws were solid,” Kerstetter said. “I still have room for improvement. I was happy I got second in the discus. I’m still waiting for the big one.”
Jake McGhee won the 800 and anchored the winning 1,600-meter relay team.
Ekoulus Lett placed third in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, while twin brother Aidon was fifth in both the 110 and 300 hurdles. He tripped over the final hurdle in the 300 and crawled across the finish line.
Thomas Cheplick was second in the 400 and sixth in the 200. Dane Mock placed fifth in the pole vault, Jake McMurdy placed sixth in the high jump and Noah Geary was sixth in the 400.
The boys finished second to Norwin in the team race.
Winning medals for the girls were Sarah Bernard, fourth in the discus and sixth in the shot put, Eliysah McPherson, fourth in the javelin, Oliva Weishaar, fifth in the 400, and Hanna Weishaar, fifth in the 800.
Hot streak
The Penn-Trafford softball team took a 13-game winning streak into to the final weeks of the season.
The Warriors (10-0, 13-1) led Franklin Regional by a game in the section standings after defeating Latrobe, 6-1, on April 24.
Penn-Trafford was scheduled to be off until May 1 when it plays a nonsection game at Connellsville.
Before the time off, the Warriors played four games in four days. They defeated McKeesport twice and Kiski Area before defeating Latrobe.
