Track notebook: Beveridge smashes 1,600 record at Butler Invitational

Butler senior Noah Beveridge put himself in the record books at the 54th annual Butler Invitational on Friday.
Beveridge won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 12.58 seconds, breaking the stadium and meet record previously held by North Hills' Ian Fitzgerald (4:14.46 in 2004).
His time also is the ninth fastest in the country.
He is the returning WPIAL Class AAA 3,200 champion.
Triple-winner
Avonworth/Northgate senior Hunter Robinson won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter events Friday at the Butler Invitational.
She captured the 100 in 12.27 seconds, the 200 in 25.13 and the 400 in 56.6.
Hunter and her sister Hayden are two of the top sprinters in Class AAA.
Still a record-holder
Hempfield's Kevin Hohol still holds the Butler Invitational record in the high jump.
Hohol cleared 6 feet, 10½ inches in 1996.
But his record isn't the oldest.
That belongs to Penn Hills' Dion Bentley in the long jump. He leaped 25-10 in 1989.
The 110-meter hurdles record also still stands as North Allegheny senior Ayden Owens failed to break the mark of North Allegheny's Jay Murphy — 13.89 set in 1992.
