The first full week of May included an impressive display for the top softball teams in the state with very little movement from last week in the latest Trib HSSN state softball rankings.

It was not a perfect week, but the losses were few and far between and only caused a bit of a shuffle in some of the classes without the mass changes we’ve witnessed over the last couple of weeks.

In fact, only one team dropped from the Top 5 from last week. In Class 3A, Loyalsock Township slipped out of the rankings for now and traditional power Avonworth took its spot at No. 5.

There was one change at the top, and it occurred in Class 6A following 2023 PIAA runner-up Hempfield knocking off last week’s top ranked team, Seneca Valley. The Spartans leap to the top while the Raiders drop to No. 2.

The other five top spots remain unchanged from last week with South Western in 5A, Blue Mountain in 4A, Mid Valley in 3A, Neshannock in 2A and Union in A still No. 1.
