Despite losing in the District 7 finals, Upper St. Clair grabbed an early lead and held on Saturday to win the boys Class AAA state championship 1-0 over West Lawn Wilson. Wes Burdette served a ball to Doug Hateman who finished the play with a header and the games only goal 20 minutes in at Hersheypark Stadium. The state crown is the third for USC after winning back-to-back PIAA gold in 2004 and 2005. Meanwhile, after yielding back-to-back shutouts in PIAA Quarterfinals and semifinals victories, Sewickley Academy was blanked Friday by Mountain View in the Class A championship match.
