Well-traveled football coach Bob Colbert is joining the staff at Greensburg Central Catholic.

Colbert, 72, the father of new Centurions head coach Bret Colbert, has been around the game for 44 years. The GCC football team recently announced his addition.

“We’re really looking forward to it. He’ll tell you he’s undefeated the last five years. I believe this may be his 59th year in football, including playing years,” Bret Colbert said. “That experience is invaluable. There’s not a situation that he hasn’t seen. I can lean on him for any professional advice, from Xs and Os, to leadership, to budgeting, to post-game meal planning.

“This will be our fourth team we’ve been on together, and I feel so blessed to be able to share these experiences with him.”

Bob Colbert is the brother of Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert.

A former head coach at Saint Vincent, Bob Colbert’s laundry list of college coaching stops includes Galludet, Colgate, Dartmouth, Cornell, Ohio Wesleyan, James Madison and Bridgewater College. He also spent time in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and former Baltimore Colts.

“He adds to our overall staff and helps the younger coaches with his wealth of knowledge and experience at so many levels and positions coached,” GCC athletic director Dan Mahoney said.
