Westmoreland County football players to watch in 2023 Week 1

Player of the week

Da’sjon Craggette

Southmoreland, Sr., RB

The senior played at Greensburg Central Catholic as a junior and rushed for 1,033 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. Because of transportation issues, Craggette, who played at Connellsville as a freshman, was able to transfer to Geibel, which has a co-op agreement with Southmoreland. In his debut as a Scottie last week, he rushed for 217 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns in a victory against McGuffey.

Players to watch

Rogan Katchur

Hempfield, Jr., RB/DB

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior rushed for only 48 yards on five carries in Week Zero against Greensburg Salem, but three of those carries resulted in touchdowns.

Julian Stevens

Greensburg Salem, Sr., TE/LB

The 6-3, 215-pound senior had three catches for 66 yards, including a one-handed, 50-yard touchdown reception against Hempfield.

Trystan Tavares

Norwin, So., QB

The 5-10, 170-pound sophomore completed 12 of 26 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns last week, including two to senior Jackson Pons, against Upper St. Clair.
