Westmoreland County roundup: Laurel Highlands edges Mt. Pleasant

Laurel Highlands scored on a pair of 1-yard runs in the second half to score a 21-14 victory over Mt. Pleasant in a Week Zero nonconference game Friday night.

Ian Edenfield scored in the third quarter, and Conner Basinger added a 1-yard run in the fourth to seal the win.

Basinger finished with 227 passing yards for Laurel Highlands (1-0).

Lucas Pieszak threw for 191 yards, including touchdowns of 62 yards to Cody Reese and 75 yards to Ryan Quin, for Mt. Pleasant (0-1).

Charleroi 35, Monessen 13 — Geno Pellegrini threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns to lead Charleroi (1-0) to a nonconference win against Monessen (0-1).

Dakota Romantino caught four passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns, and Hunter Perry rushed for 114 yards and a TD for the Cougars.

Dom Pellegrini contributed 11 tackles and a sack for Charleroi's defense.
