MONDAY

Baseball

Section 2-6A suddenly is bunched at the top with Plum and Hempfield tied for first at 6-2, Penn-Trafford at 5-3, and Norwin at 4-4. Penn-Trafford (7-5 overall) heads to Plum (10-3) looking to make things even tighter.

Latrobe (6-6, 5-5) hosts No. 2 Laurel Highlands (10-0, 10-0) in a Section 3-5A game at 5 p.m.

Softball

No. 2 Yough (11-2, 8-0) hosts West Mifflin (8-5, 4-4) in Section 2-4A.

Belle Vernon (10-2) heads to Monessen (9-1) for a clash of ranked teams. Belle Vernon is No. 3 in Class 4A, Monessen No. 1 in Class A.

Boys tennis

The individual postseason opens with singles tournaments around the WPIAL.

TUESDAY

Softball

The game to watch is in Section 1-5A as No. 2 Franklin Regional (11-2, 9-0) travels to No. 3 Penn-Trafford (12-2, 10-1). Franklin Regional took the first game 13-9.

• Section 2-4A has first-place Yough (11-2, 8-0) hosting Elizabeth Forward (12-2, 6-2). Yough won the first meeting 7-2.

Hempfield (9-1, 7-0) travels to Norwin (4-3, 3-2) in Section 2-6A. Norwin has scored more runs against the Spartans than any team this season, losing 7-5 earlier.

Greensburg Salem (6-6, 5-4) at Kiski Area (6-5, 5-5) is another notable game in Section 1-5A. Derry (3-5, 2-4) visits No. 1 Mt. Pleasant (10-0, 8-0) in Section 1-4A.

Baseball

Franklin Regional hosts No. 2 Laurel Highlands in Section 3-5A.

Track and field

The WPIAL team playoffs begin, and a number of county teams will be looking to advance to the finals May 7 at Baldwin.

In boys Class AAA, Franklin Regional, Chartiers Valley and Kiski Area are at Butler, and Hempfield, Uniontown and Mars travel to Baldwin. Norwin is at South Fayette with Gateway and New Castle.

In Class AA, Derry and Mohawk travel to Waynesburg, and Southmoreland and Washington run at South Park.

On the girls side, Franklin Regional, Kiski Area and Chartiers Valley travel to Butler; Hempfield, Belle Vernon, Uniontown and Moon go to Baldwin; and Norwin and Trinity go to South Fayette in Class AA.

In Class AA, Derry and Mohawk are at Waynesburg, and Burrell, Southmoreland and Brownsville go to South Park.

Boys volleyball

Norwin visits Latrobe in a Section 3-AAA.

Boys lacrosse

A pair of featured Section 1-AAA games include Hempfield at Latrobe and Penn-Trafford at Norwin.

WEDNESDAY

Baseball

Norwin at Penn-Trafford not only is a rivalry game, but it also carries importance in the Section 2-6A standings.

Softball

Greensburg Salem plays at Franklin Regional in Section 1-5A.

Girls lacrosse

Games to watch include Penn-Trafford at Hempfield in Section 2-AAA and Oakland Catholic at Greensburg Central Catholic in Section 1-AA.

THURSDAY

Softball

The big Section 2-6A rematch between Latrobe and Hempfield will be at Robert Kalp Field. Hempfield held off the Wildcats, 3-1, on April 23.

• Penn-Trafford visits Kiski Area in a Section 1-5A game.

FRIDAY

Baseball

Several all-local matchups dot the schedule, including Latrobe at Franklin Regional (Section 3-5A), Greensburg Salem at Yough (1-4A), Southmoreland at Mt. Pleasant (3-3A) and Jeannette at Greensburg Central Catholic (2-A), a game that starts at 7 p.m. at Hempfield Park.

Track and field

A pair of prominent meets will draw some of the WPIAL and state's best athletes with the Baldwin Invitational and Pine-Richland Invitational.
