Highlights of the week ahead in Westmoreland high school sports:

MONDAY

Girls soccer: Uber-rivals Penn-Trafford and Norwin will meet again in a matchup in North Huntingdon that could decide the Section 3-AAAA title. Norwin, the defending PIAA champion, won the first meeting 4-2 over the defending WPIAL champion Warriors. Penn-Trafford beat Norwin twice last season, including in the WPIAL final.

Another top-tier matchup has Laurel Highlands at Belle Vernon in Section 2-AAA, and Elizabeth Forward at Greensburg Salem could settle playoff positioning in the same section.

Boys soccer: A nonsection matchup of local Class AA playoff teams features Mt. Pleasant at Southmoreland.

Golf: The top WPIAL boys and girls finishers in Class AAA and AA will look to advance in the individual postseason as they play in the PIAA Western Regional tournaments at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

Girls tennis: The WPIAL team playoffs move to the quarterfinals. Derry will visit Greensburg Salem in a Class AA match, Latrobe will be in action in Class AAA and Greensburg Central Catholic also looks to advance in Class AA.

TUESDAY

Girls volleyball: A number of key matchups not only will help settle the playoff picture but also help teams get ready for the postseason.

Top games include Latrobe at Norwin (Section 3-AAAA), Greensburg Salem at Armstrong (1-AAA), Burrell at Derry (5-AA), and Greensburg Central Catholic at Leechburg (4-A).

Boys soccer: Greensburg Salem can clinch a playoff spot when it hosts Laurel Highlands. The Golden Lions are tied with Trinity for fourth place in Section 3-AAA. Trinity plays at Belle Vernon.

Girls soccer: Mt. Pleasant at Brownsville could settle the final playoff spot in Section 3-AA.

WEDNESDAY

Soccer: The WPIAL will convene to draw up playoff pairings for the boys and girls fields.

A local girls-boys doubleheader in Carbon has Greensburg Salem at Greensburg Central Catholic.

THURSDAY

Girls volleyball: Hempfield at Latrobe is the match to keep an eye on in Section 3-AAAA.

FRIDAY

Football: Franklin Regional knocked off McKeesport last year in the season opener, and the Panthers will try for another victory against the Tigers in a key Class 5A Big East Conference clash at McKeesport.

Other top area games include Greensburg Salem at Thomas Jefferson (4A Big Eight), Yough at No. 3 North Catholic (3A Big East) and Southmoreland at No. 5 Washington (2A Interstate).

Norwin at No. 5 Mt. Lebanon is a good Class 6A matchup, and Hempfield has a winnable game and can snap a seven-game losing streak when it hosts Butler.

SATURDAY

Football: Class A No. 1 Jeannette will play at Riverview in Oakmont in a tune-up for its Week 9 finale against Clairton.

Soccer: The WPIAL playoffs are scheduled to begin around the district.
