WPIAL Class 2A football roundup: Burrell edges Serra Catholic in Allegheny Conference

Tyler Maglisco scored on a 5-yard touchdown run and Devin Beattie caught the 2-point conversion pass from Stevie Hasson as Burrell picked up a thrilling, 8-7 Class 2A Allegheny Conference victory over Serra Catholic (0-4, 0-1) on Friday night.

The Bucs (2-2, 1-0) made two goal-line stands at the 1-yard line in the game.

Derry 22, Yough 21 — Jaiden Beeman’s 1-yard-run in the fourth quarter and his two-point conversion pass to Damauri Robinson lifted Derry (2-2, 1-0) past Yough (1-3, 0-1) in the Allegheny Conference. Raidon Kuroda ran for two touchdowns for Yough.

Ligonier Valley 34, Apollo-Ridge 14 — John Jablunovsky scored on an 88-yard kickoff return, touchdown runs of 26 and 20 yards and a 26-yard pass from Bowie Schreyer to lead Ligonier Valley (2-2, 1-0) past Apollo-Ridge (1-3, 0-1) in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference. It was the 150th career win for Ligonier Valley coach Roger Beitel. Schreyer also had a 4-yard TD run for the Rams. Quarterback Karter Schrock had two touchdown runs for Apollo-Ridge.

Steel Valley 17, Imani Christian 6 — Donald Barksdale ran for 87 yards and a touchdown as No. 2 Steel Valley (2-1, 1-0) beat No. 3 Imani Christian (2-2, 0-1) in Allegheny Conference play.

McGuffey 43, Brentwood 18 — Connor Crowe rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns as McGuffey (2-2, 1-0) beat Brentwood (0-4, 0-1) in the Century Conference. Cedric Davis threw for 253 yards and one touchdown for Brentwood.

Sto-Rox 24, Charleroi 8Sto-Rox (1-2, 1-0) beat Charleroi (0-3, 0-1) in Century Conference play.

Waynesburg Central 12, Keystone Oaks 0 — In the Century Conference, Jacob Stephenson ran for 112 yards and a 55-yard touchdown as Waynesburg Central (4-0, 1-0) shut out Keystone Oaks (1-3, 0-1).

Beaver Falls 63, New Brighton 20 — Da’Talian Beauford ran for 89 yards and two touchdowns and scored on a 49-yard interception return as Beaver Falls (2-2, 1-0) downed New Brighton (0-4, 0-1) for the Midwestern Athletic Conference win. Meach Taylor added a touchdown on a 90-yard interception return for Beaver Falls. Brian Taylor ran for 81 yards for New Brighton.

Ellwood City 34, Freedom 14 — Chris Smiley threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another TD to lead Ellwood City (3-1, 1-0) to the Midwestern Athletic Conference win against Freedom (1-3, 0-1). Elijah Palmer-McCane added 167 rushing yards for Ellwood City. Tyler Schultheis tossed for 161 yards and both Freedom touchdowns.

Mohawk 45, Riverside 0 — Jay Wrona threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more to lead No. 5 Mohawk (3-1, 1-0) to the Midwestern Athletic Conference win at Riverside (0-3, 0-1).

Neshannock 27, Western Beaver 26 — Anthony Eakin ran for 130 yards and one touchdown as No. 4 Neshannock (3-1, 1-0) beat Western Beaver (1-3, 0-1) in Midwestern Athletic Conference play. Jaivin Pell threw for 331 yards and all four Western Beaver touchdowns.

Shadyside, Ohio 37, Brownsville 16 — Shadyside, Ohio (2-3) beat Brownsville (0-4) in nonconference play).
