WPIAL Class A football roundup: Kole Olszewski tosses 4 TDs as No. 3 Bishop Canevin clinches playoff berth

Kole Olszewski threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 3 Bishop Canevin to a 41-7 Class A Black Hills Conference win at OLSH (4-5, 3-3) on Friday night.

Jayden Lindsey caught four passes for 154 yards for the Crusaders (7-1, 5-1), who clinched a playoff spot with the win.

Laurel 30, Summit Academy 6 — Ben Hennon rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns as Laurel (3-6, 2-3) kept its playoff hopes alive with a win over Summit Academy (0-9, 0-5) in the Big 7 Conference. The game was called just before halftime because of a fight. After ejections, Summit Academy didn’t have enough players to continue the game.

Rochester 42, Northgate 8Rochester (5-3, 3-2) clinched a postseason berth with its Big 7 Conference win against Northgate (4-5, 2-4).

Burgettstown 28, Avella 6Burgettstown (5-3, 4-2) kept its playoff hopes alive with a Black Hills Conference win against Avella (3-6, 1-5).

Cornell 39, Chartiers-Houston 0Cornell (7-2, 4-2) shut out Chartiers-Houston (0-9, 0-6) for the Black Hills Conference win.

Fort Cherry 42, Carlynton 0 — Matt Sieg threw for 42 yards and a touchdown, ran for 135 yards and a TD and returned a punt 45 yards for another score as top-ranked Fort Cherry (9-0, 6-0) blanked Carlynton (2-7, 1-5) in Black Hills Conference play. Ethan Faletto added 103 rushing yards and two touchdowns while Shane Cornali returned a punt 47 yards for a TD.

Clairton 50, Frazier 6 — In the Eastern Conference, No. 4 Clairton (7-2, 5-0) downed Frazier (1-8, 1-5).

Jeannette 49, Springdale 12 — Payton Molter threw for 293 yards and four touchdowns as playoff-bound Jeannette (7-2, 4-1) defeated Springdale (1-8, 0-5) in Eastern Conference play. Kymon’e Brown caught four passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns while Noah Sanders caught three passes for 89 yards and two TDs and added 81 rushing yards and another touchdown.

Bentworth 20, Carmichaels 12 — Vitali Daniels threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns — both to Benjamin Hays — as Bentworth (3-6, 2-4) beat Carmichaels (2-7, 1-5) in the Tri-County South. Hays caught six passes for 121 yards and added a rushing touchdown. A.J. Donaldson threw for 109 yards and a touchdown for Carmichaels while teammate Billy White ran for 133 yards.

California 62, Beth-Center 6 — Jake Layhue and Lee Qualk each ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns as California (8-1, 6-0) beat Beth-Center (3-6, 3-3) in the Tri-County South. Spencer Petrucci added 107 rushing yards and three touchdowns for California. Ethan Varesko ran for 123 yards and Beth-Center’s touchdown.

Monessen 36, Mapletown 20 — Dennis Hawkins threw for 361 yards and five touchdowns to lead Monessen (3-6, 2-4) to the Tri-County South win against Mapletown (3-6, 1-5). Lorenzo Gardner caught four passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns for Monessen. Evan Griffin caught four passes for 103 yards and two TDs and added a rushing touchdown for Mapletown.

West Greene 31, Jefferson-Morgan 16 — Billy Whitlach ran for 255 yards and three touchdowns to lead West Greene (7-2, 5-1) to the Tri-County South win over Jefferson-Morgan (5-4, 4-2).

Leechburg 27, Shenango 26 — Jayden Floyd threw for 130 yards and ran for 134 yards and three touchdowns as Leechburg (6-3) rallied to defeat Shenango (2-7) in nonconference play. Shenango led 20-7 at halftime. Sam Myers threw for 68 yards and a touchdown and had two interceptions, including returning one 55 yards for a TD, for Shenango.
