There have been a lot of great milestones in the wrestling career of Kittanning senior Jason Nolf, who currently has a career record of 169-1 and is planning to attend Penn State University in the fall. Nolf added to his milestones when he was able to join a special group of wrestlers on Saturday, when he became the 23rd WPIAL wrestler to ever win 4 WPIAL Championships.

Nolf earned his fourth title in dominating fashion at 145 pounds. He won by a pair of falls over George Rogers of Washington and Austin Mears of Mount Pleasant to put him into Saturday nights final against Beth-Center’s Tony Welsh. In the finals, Nolf jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead before turning Welsh and pinning him in 1:22.

Next season there may be an additional wrestler in AA joining the prolific group, as South Fayette junior Jared Walker earned his 3rd WPIAL Championship, defeating Jefferson Morgan’s Ryan Zalar by fall in 3:33 at 160 pounds. Teammate Mike Carr joined Walker in winning WPIAL gold, beating Evan Myers of Southmoreland 9-2 at 132 pounds.

Others winning their second WPIAL title were Austin McDermitt of Burgettstown (113), George Phillippi of Derry (120), Jake Temple of Avella (220), and Allan Beattie of Burrell (285).

Overall the first seed made it to the finals in every weight class with the top two seeds in each weight class advancing to the finals in every weight class except for two. At 182 pounds, number two seed Freddie McKissick fell in the quarterfinals to Keystone Oaks’ Jake Walker 3-1 in overtime. At 170 pounds, number two seed Dalton Rosta of Laurel lost to Burrell’s Nick Pattock in the semi-finals 4-3 in double overtime.

Of the 14 number one seeds to advance to the finals, 12 walked out with gold medals. The lone exceptions were at 106 pounds, where Dallas Blusak of South Park won by decision over Hunter Neely of Bentworth 7-0, and at 195 pounds, where Marcus Davenport of Valley defeated Brad Grinnen of Ellwood City 5-3.

For a full recap of the WPIAL AA Championships, listen in to Inside the WPIAL Wrestling Circle Monday night at 7:00 PM. Kittanning’s Jason Nolf will join the show to talk about being a 4 time WPIAL Champion.
