WPIAL clinched: Softball playoff qualifiers through Monday, April 27

The WPIAL softball playoff field is nearly complete with 73 teams having punched their ticket for the upcoming district postseason.

The top four teams in each section qualify for the postseason from Class 5A down. In 6A, the top six teams clinch a WPIAL playoff berth.

If there is a tie for the final playoff spot in any section, all of the tied teams advance if they split their head-to-head meetings.

Here is the latest list of teams that earned district playoff berths along with playoff scenarios through Monday.

Pine-Richland Rams

• North Allegheny is 4-9 as it battles for the final playoff spot in 6A. In its final section game, NA visits Canon-McMillan on Tuesday. If the Tigers win, there would be a four-way tie for fourth place. In the head-to-head tiebreaker, Mt. Lebanon would finish fourth, then North Allegheny would be fifth and Pine-Richland and Canon-McMillan would tie for sixth place. If the Big Macs win, they finish fourth, Mt. Lebanon and Pine-Richland would finish tied for fifth place and North Allegheny would be eliminated.

Northgate is home to Shady Side Academy on Wednesday, at Apollo-Ridge and home to Springdale May 6.
