WPIAL Class 5A and 2A football teams should soon learn the site for their championship games.

The WPIAL board will likely choose a host site at its May 14 meeting, executive director Tim O'Malley said. The WPIAL solicited bids from area colleges and Class 6A high schools. Pine-Richland, North Allegheny and Norwin administrators said they're interested in hosting, as has Geneva College, but other schools could join the list.

Robert Morris is interested in hosting the Class 2A final but a Class 5A championship crowd wouldn't fit well at 3,000-seat Walton Stadium. The WPIAL board may decide to split the games at two sites or keep them together at one.

RMU hosted the Class 2A and A finals the past two seasons.

Updated state playoff brackets changed the WPIAL championship schedule for 2018 and 2019. The Class 6A, 4A, 3A and A finals will be played together Nov. 16 or 17 at Heinz Field. Class 5A and 2A are Nov. 23 or 24.
