While attending a high school football game sitting with fans so intense…You will often hear cheers and chants for DEE-FENSE!…We focus on defense for the big plays from Week Eight…Just part of the reason these teams are getting ready for the postseason while their district think they are great!

Erie McDowell Trojans 42 – Butler Golden Tornado 13
WBUT-AM 1050's Ron Willison and Dr. Craig Lucas on the call

In their first football season of 'officially' being a member of the WPIAL, Erie McDowell entered Week 8 knowing all they had to do was win against Struggling Butler and they were headed to the D-7 playoffs. The Trojans won in grand style thanks to a pair of Colin Kimball touchdowns, including a 48-yard interception return to the house that helped seal the playoff deal in a 42-13 victory over the not so Golden Tornado.

South Fayette Lions 42 – Seton-LaSalle Rebels 35
WJPA-FM 95.3's Bob Gregg and Mark Uriah on the call

It's no surprise when you look at the weapons on each team's offense that this Class AA Century Conference championship game turned into an offensive shootout between South Fayette and Seton-LaSalle. But one of the biggest plays of the game came when Zach Challingsworth scored his third touchdown of the game on a 9-yard fumble recovery to give the Lions the lead for good late in the second quarter in a 42-35 thriller over the Rebels. OK, so this wasn't defense but it was a heck of a game.

Beaver Falls Tigers 10 – Ellwood City Wolverines 3
MSA Sports Greg Kuntz and Mike Azadian on the call

Unlike the Century Conference showdown above, this Class AA Midwestern Conference battle for a playoff spot was old school defense. So it was appropriate that with the score tied 3-3 in the fourth quarter, a defensive play was the difference when the Tigers Trey Collier returned an interception 39 yards for the games only touchdown in a hard-fought 10-3 victory over the Wolverines to clinch another playoff spot for The Falls.

Avonworth Antelopes 54 – Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chargers 6
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Network's Terry Neary and Don Seeds on the call

This Class A Eastern Conference battle was over early at Robert Morris College, however while it was still close, the Lopes started to pull away thanks in part to a shut down defense. A.J. Mang returned an interception 40-yards for a touchdown as the Antelopes remained in a three-way tie atop the Class A Eastern Conference with a rout of the Chargers.
