WPIAL reveals brackets for 2024 softball playoffs

Four defending champions are favored to repeat in the upcoming WPIAL softball playoffs.

Reigning champions Hempfield in Class 6A, Avonworth in 3A, Neshannock in 2A and Union in A were among the six teams that received No. 1 seeds when the WPIAL revealed playoff brackets Thursday. The two other top seeds went to Armstrong in Class 5A and Elizabeth Forward in 4A.

The playoffs begin Monday for Class 4A and 5A teams while first-round games in 3A, 2A and A start Tuesday. The Class 6A bracket gets under way Wednesday.

The tournaments conclude May 29-30 with championship games at Lilley Field in California.

The six brackets had 76 teams combined. State playoff qualifiers include the WPIAL champion in Class 6A, the top three teams in 5A, 4A and 2A and the top four in 3A and A.
