Week Three of the 2017 WPIAL football season concluded on the warmest game day of the campaign. While cramps were a big concern in the three afternoon Class 1-A contests, these three ‘wise’ men laughed at the warm temps and humidity in leading their teams to either remain undefeated or claim a first victory of the fall.

Robert Kennedy – Jeannette

He’s no U.S. senator, he’s no attorney general and he’s no presidential candidate, but this Robert Kennedy can sure WHIP his opponents on the gridiron. Kennedy  threw for 93 yards and three first quarter touchdowns, plus he ran one time for 48 yards and the games first score and had a pick six called back because of a penalty as the Jeannette Jayhawks cruised to a 43-0 filibuster over the host Riverview Raiders in a Class 1-A Eastern Conference game.

Antonio White – Summit Academy

Since it was a home game for Summit Academy, Antonio White did not have to drive the bus. But he pretty much did everything else for the hosts in a Class 1-A Big 7 Conference football game against Cornell. White rushed for a 10-yard score, caught a 66-yard touchdown pass from Delano Brown and returned an interception 67-yards to the house as the Knights won for the first time with a 44-6 drubbing of the Raiders.

Jelani Stafford – California

All California junior fullback Jelani Stafford needed was a tear away jersey and you would have thought you were watching Earl Campbell in his prime. Even though he exited the game several times with a hitch in his giddy-up, the 6’1, 263-pound Stafford rumbled and bulled his way to 227 yards on 27 punishing carries and scored his teams final touchdown on a 16-yard fourth quarter jaunt as the Trojans won this Class 1-A Non-Conference battle of unbeaten teams 41-26 over the host Imani Christian Saints.
