WPIAL singles, doubles champions advance in PIAA tournament

It was a good day to be a WPIAL champion Friday at the PIAA singles and doubles tournaments at Hershey Racquet Club.

Both district singles champions and the two doubles teams that claimed WPIAL gold were victorious in the first round and quarterfinals.

North Allegheny’s Ashley Huang earned two straight-set victories in Class AAA, and Knoch’s Laura Greb rolled in her first two matches in Class AA.

Also in Class AA, Knoch’s Brooke Bauer reached the quarterfinals before falling 6-3, 6-2, and Sewickley Academy’s Simran Bedi lost a first-round match.

In Class AAA, Baldwin’s Bethan Yauch won her first-round match but lost 6-3, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. Bethel Park’s Mia Gorman and Brashear’s Autumn Wilde lost in the first round.

In the Class AA doubles tournament, WPIAL champions Devyn Campbell and Anna Blum from Beaver won both their matches 6-4, 6-3.

Sewickley Academy’s Victoria Keller and Alina Mattson won their first-round match before falling short in the quarterfinals.

Greensburg Salem’s Kasey Storkel and Abby Jo Stull lost a three-set match in the first round.

In Class AAA, Shady Side Academy’s Ella Santora and Aya Youssef, the WPIAL champions, won a three-set match in the quarterfinals.

Mars’ Amelia Haley and Emily Ivory fell short in the quarterfinals, while Latrobe’s Jenna Bell and Addison Kemerer lost their first-round match, 6-0, 6-0.

The semifinals and finals will be held Saturday in Hershey.
