There are teams that were expected to make a run at the WPIAL Softball Championship like Burrell, Ambridge and Yough. Then there are teams like Greensburg Central Catholic and Fort Cherry who keep chugging along…all the way to California PA. Here are the recaps from the five district Semifinals contests played on Thursday afternoon and heard here on the MSA Sports Network.
Thanks to Jonathan Whaley, Steve Nagler, Don Rebel and Bob Gregg for their help on these recaps.
WPIAL CLASS AAA SEMIFINALS:
Yough Cougars 3 – Montour Spartans 1
Yough's terrific, senior, left-handed, pitcher, Nicole Sleith said after the game that she thought that her and her fellow, senior, right fielder, Kati Sterner's combined 4-base error on a bunt by Montour sophomore, center fielder, Alyssa McMurtrie in the top of the third inning would turnout to be the difference in their semifinal game on Thursday afternoon at California University of Pennsylvania's Lilly Field.
