High school roundup: No. 3 Peters Township girls edge No. 2 Bethel Park

Makenna Marisa's traditional three-point play with 30 seconds remaining lifted No. 3 Peters Township to a 38-37 victory over No. 2 Bethel Park in a Section 3-6A girls basketball game Thursday night.

Marisa finished with 19 points, and Olivia Ziegler added 10 for the Indians (7-0, 1-0).

Maria Cerro had 21 for host Bethel Park (4-2, 0-1).

North Allegheny 64, Shaler 34 — Courtney Roman hit six 3-pointers and had 20 points as No. 1 North Allegheny (5-0, 1-0) won a Section 1-6A contest. Megan Lydon had 16 points for Shaler (3-3, 0-1).

Seneca Valley 55, Pine-Richland 29 — Gretchen Koken had 20 points and McKenna Gross added 19 as Seneca Valley (4-2, 1-0) won a Section 1-6A game.

Chartiers Valley 73, Lincoln Park 45 — Mackenzie Wagner netted 23 points as No. 1 Chartiers Valley (4-2, 1-0) rolled to a Section 1-5A victory.

Trinity 69, Greensburg Salem 27 — Riley DeRubbo had 21 points as Trinity (6-1, 3-0) cruised to a Section 3-5A win. Megan Kallock scored 13 for the Golden Lions (2-4, 1-2), who trailed 22-5 in the first quarter.

Belle Vernon 53, South Park 36 — Kelsey Green had 17 points and Caitlyn Trombley scored 13 as Belle Vernon (5-2, 3-0) won a Section 3-4A game. Belle Vernon led 26-14 at halftime.

Elizabeth Forward 59, Mt. Pleasant 29 — Bri Spirnak scored 16 points as Elizabeth Forward (5-2, 3-0) won a Section3-4A game.

Colleen Trainer had seven points for Mt. Pleasant (2-4, 1-2).

Keystone Oaks 71, Derry 45 — Isa Bodgan had 21 points and Gillian Piccolino added 20 as No. 4 Keystone Oaks (5-1, 3-0) won in Section 3-4A. Destiny Roberts led Derry (0-6, 0-3) with 17 points.

Southmoreland 57, Yough 21 — Led by Maggie Moore's 21 points, Southmoreland (4-2, 1-2) scored a Section 3-4A victory. Sarah Pisula had 13 points and Carissa Cyphert added 11 for the Scotties, who led 14-0 in the first quarter and 26-5 at halftime.

Rebecca Mlinek had 12 points for Yough (0-7, 0-3).

Ringgold 53, Albert Gallatin 30 Ringgold (5-3, 2-0) opened on a 21-10 run en route to a Section 3-5A win. Taylor Mendicino had 12 points, and Nya Adams added 11 for the Rams.

Hampton 46, Armstrong 37 — Laryn Edwards scored 21 points and Ali Collins had 15 as No. 3 Hampton (4-1, 3-0) won a Section 4-5A game. Kenzie Lasher had 23 points for Armstrong (5-1, 1-1).

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 60, Freeport 22Freeport (3-3, 1-1) trailed Class 4A No. 1 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (5-0, 2-0) by four after the first quarter, but was outscored 20-0 in the second in a Section 1 loss. Jenna Manke led the Yellowjackets with 11 points. Kylee Lenardonski had 16 points for Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic.

Highlands 53, Valley 38 — Renee Cebula led Highlands (1-5, 1-2) with 22 points and seven steals as the Golden Rams picked up a Section 1-4A win. Sara Sawhook also scored 11 for the Golden Rams. Aubeonna Perkins led Valley (1-4, 0-1) with 17 points.

Knoch 35, Burrell 32 — The Bucs led by six at the half, but could not hold on as they dropped a Section 1-4A contest to Knoch (2-4, 2-0). Kaylen Sharrow had a game-high 16 points and 14 rebounds for Burrell (2-4, 1-2) and Brittany Dunn added 10. Casey Kretzer led the Knights with 14 points.

Charleroi 47, South Side Beaver 41 — In Section 2-3A, Kaitlyn Riley had 16 points and Sierra Short added 14 to lift Charleroi (5-1, 3-0) to victory.

Apollo-Ridge 54, Seton LaSalle 52 — Maddy Moore scored the Vikings' final seven points, including the go-ahead basket with five seconds remaining, as Apollo-Ridge edged Seton LaSalle in a Section 3-3A game.

The Vikings survived a pair of missed Seton LaSalle (3-4, 1-2) free throws after Moore put them ahead.

Moore finished with a game-high 16 points for the Vikings (4-2, 2-1). Megan Ost added 12 points and Liz Penrose scored 11 for Apollo-Ridge, which won its second section game, matching its total from last year.

Bishop Canevin 51, Avonworth 42 — Bri Allen had 19 points and Shamijha Price added 17 as No. 1 Bishop Canevin (4-1, 3-0) won a Section 3-3A game. Hayden Robinson scored 22 points for Avonworth (5-2, 1-1).

Chartiers-Houston 67, Burgettstown 17 — Alexa Williamson set a single-game school scoring record with 40 points as No. 1 Chartiers-Houston (4-1, 3-0) won a Section 1-2A game. Williamson added 13 rebounds for the Bucs.

Leechburg 84, Northgate 53 — Mikayla Lovelace finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists as No. 4 Leechburg defeated Northgate (3-3, 1-2) in section 2-2A action. Brittany Robilio made four 3-pointers and added 24 points for the Blue Devils (5-1, 3-0), and Cameron Davies scored nine points and recorded the 200th 3-pointer of her career.

Riverview 42, Ellis School 28 Riverview opened up a 18-6 lead in the first quarter and didn't look back on its way to a Section 2-2A victory over Ellis School (1-6, 0-3). Alyssa Cappa had 12 points for the Raiders (3-3, 1-2) and McKenzie Smail scored 10.

Beth-Center 66, Jeannette 23 — Olivia Greco had 17 points as Beth-Center (5-1, 3-0) won in Section 3-2A. Dymond Crawford had 10 points for Jeannette (2-4, 1-2), which fell behind 15-4 in the first quarter.

California 38, Greensburg Central Catholic 33 — In Section 3-2A, Bailey Vig had 22 points to lead California (4-2, 2-1) to victory. Bella Skatell had 16 points and Anna Eisaman added 14 for Greensburg Central Catholic (1-4, 1-2). Skatell hit four 3-pointers in the loss.

Quigley Catholic 57, Sewickley Academy 36 — In Section 1-A, Taylor Kirschner had 20 points to lead No. 4 Quigley Catholic (2-4, 1-0) past No. 3 Sewickley Academy (4-1, 0-1). Sam Smith had 13 points for the Panthers.

Avella 47, Monessen 27 — Bailey Lis had 20 points as Avella (4-2, 1-0) won in Section 2-A. Monessen (1-5, 0-1) trailed 27-12 at halftime.

West Greene 75, Jefferson-Morgan 17 — McKenna Lampe scored 31 points and became the No. 2 Pioneers' sixth 1,000-point scorer, as West Greene (6-0, 1-0) won in Section 2-A.

Franklin Regional 43, Hempfield 28 — Isabel Palamone scored 18 points and Class 5A Franklin Regional (5-2) stopped a two-game losing streak by beating visiting Class 6A Hempfield (2-4). Allison Podkul scored 13 points for Hempfield, including the Spartans' first 11.

Ligonier Valley 41, Tyrone 40 — Alexia Boyd's 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining gave Ligonier Valley a nonconference victory over Tyrone (2-3).

Lexie Petrof had 19 points, 13 rebounds and four steals for the Rams (3-4).

Rachel Horrell added three points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

Portersville Christian 39, Cheswick Christian Academy 18 — Allyson Drake and Bethany Kosor both scored six points, but Cheswick Christian (2-2) fell to Portersville Christian (2-0) in a SWCAC game.

Armstrong 55, Greensburg Salem 41 — Jalen Price had 17 points, and Isaiah Price scored 13 as Armstrong (4-2, 1-0) won in Section 3-5A. Dante Parsons had 14 points and Marvel McGowan added 10 for Greensburg Salem (5-1, 0-1).

Beaver 71, Hopewell 54 — Michael Champ scored 27 points as Beaver (2-4, 1-2) won in Section 2-4A.

South Fayette 63, South Park 49 — In a Section 3-4A game, Conner Misland had 16 points and Devin Turner added 14 as South Fayette (4-2, 2-1) earned a win.

Sewickley Academy 71, Laurel 43 — In Section 3-2A, Isaiah Smith had 19 points, seven steals and six rebounds as the No. 1 Panthers (6-1, 3-0) earned a victory.

Imani Christian 76, St. Joseph 47St. Joseph trailed by three at halftime, but was outscored 24-7 in the fourth quarter in a Section 3-A loss at No. 2 Imani Christian. Andrew Sullivan had 18 points for the Spartans (3-3, 0-1) and Grant Bendis scored 12. Sam Fairley scored 25 points for the Saints (2-4, 1-0) and Ray Jackson added 22 points.

Monessen 91, Avella 34 — Lyndon Henderson had 29 points and Cory Fleming added 21 as the No. 1 Greyhounds (3-3, 2-0) earned a Section 2-A win.

Imani Christian 76, St. Joseph 47 — Sam Fairley scored 25 points for the Saints (2-4, 1-0) and Ray Jackson added 22 points en route to a Section 3-A win.

Indiana 58, Kiski Area 28 — Tracey Moore scored 12 points and Austin Schwarz had 10, but Kiski Area (0-5) was held to single-digit point totals in all four quarters in a nonsection loss to Class 4A No. 4 Indiana (5-0). Carlos Carter had a game-high 26 points for the Indians, who led 21-4 at the end of the first quarter.

Ligonier Valley 74, Blairsville 55 — Michael Marinchak had 22 points and Jaxon Ludwig added 21 as Ligonier Valley (4-3, 3-0) won a District 6 Heritage Conference game. Matt Jackson had 22 points for Blairsville (3-4, 3-1).

Portersville Christian 45, Cheswick Christian Academy 14 — Isaiah Malloy registered 11 points, but Cheswick Christian (0-5) dropped the SWCAC game.

Hockey

Fox Chapel 6, Kiski Area 3 — Shane Krhovsky and Chase Villani both picked up hat tricks as Fox Chapel (5-6-1) notched a PIHL Class A victory. Seth Krhovsky and Willie Doyle both added four assists for the Foxes. James Ayres and Austin Lapiana each had a goal and an assist for Kiski (6-5).
