2014-2015 WPIAL Girls Basketball Review

Before we look ahead to the upcoming WPIAL girls basketball season, let’s look back at the 2014-2015 campaign where Vincentian Academy in Class A and Blackhawk in Class AAA won double gold by winning both the WPIAL and PIAA state championships. While they didn’t win a state title, both Norwin in Class AAAA and Seton-LaSalle in Class AA had very successful seasons that netted them a WPIAL championship banner. Here is a look back at the 2014-2015 WPIAL Girls Basketball regular season standings, WPIAL postseason results and PIAA state playoff finals from a year ago.

2014-2015 GIRLS BASKETBALL WPIAL PLAYOFF RESULTS:

Three defending champs were successful in claiming more gold while a first-time winner joined them over Championship Weekend at the University of Pittsburgh. Vincentian Academy continues to dominate Class A with a fourth straight district title while Blackhawk in Triple-A and Seton-LaSalle in Double-A claimed back-to-back titles. The Rebels crown was their fourth in five years. Meanwhile, there is a new King of the Mountain in Quad-A girls hoops as Norwin followed rival Penn-Trafford from last year in capturing a school first district championship. 2014-2015 GIRLS BASKETBALL PIAA PLAYOFF RESULTS:

Two out of three ain’t bad. In 2014, Blackhawk in AAA, Seton-LaSalle in AA and Vincentian Academy in A not only won WPIAL championships, but also added PIAA state crowns to their trophy case. The golden girls once again captured another WPIAL crown last month before winning four games to advance back to Hershey and the state finals. While Seton-LaSalle fell shot in Class AA, both Blackhawk in AAA and Vincentian Academy in A were successful in winning another PIAA state championship.
