For a fourth straight season, a team from the Northern Eight Conference won the WPIAL Quad-A football championship. However for the first time in four years, it was not the North Allegheny Tigers. Pittsburgh Central Catholic captured district gold for the fourth time and first time since 2007.
2013 WPIAL Quad-A Headlines:
* The most successful title run in Class AAAA history came to an end as the North Allegheny Tigers run of three straight district championships as the Tigers finished third in the Northern eight Conference before falling in the WPIAL Quarterfinals to Upper St. Clair 41-23.
* For the fourth time in five years, George Novak guided his Woodland Hills football team to Heinz Field to play in the championship game. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, they settled for silver for a second straight year after losing to Pittsburgh Central Catholic 27-7 in the snow on the North Shore.
* Three new coaches took over for long time field generals at North Hills, Pine-Richland and Gateway and all three were able to lead their respective teams to the playoffs. However only the Gators were able to advance past Round One before they lost to eventual champion Pittsburgh Central Catholic in the Quarterfinals.
* Speaking of coaches, George Smith returned after a four year hiatus to McKeesport and it was like he never left. The Tigers won the Foothills Conference and won their first playoff game since…George Smith led them to the Semifinals in 2008.
* Baldwin beat out Fox Chapel, Altoona and conference rival Mount Lebanon to capture the Quad-A wild card in 2013. It was a rare miss of the post season for the Blue Devils.
