Even though three former WPIAL players are starting at Pitt and Penn State (Jonathan Baldwin, Mike Shanahan, Derek Moye), the WPIAL hasn't been known for producing many big-time receivers over the years. It was a bit of a soggy start to the Week Five weekend in the WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League on Thursday. While the spotlight shined on Class AAAA and the Northern Seven Conference in the WPIAL, the Pittsburgh City League featured a battle between two of the top three teams through four weeks. Great defense was the story in the fourth week of the area college football slate. A shutout in the PSAC, a goal line stand in the PAC and good battles for the top spot in both the PAC and NCAC. Seven games were played under more fall like conditions as Week Four came to an end on Saturday. Sunny skies and comfortable temperatures greeted players from 14 WPIAL and 2 Pittsburgh City League teams in the afternoon while pleasant conditions were the backdrop for the lone evening contest. Power outages throughout the South Hills of Pittsburgh from a storm on Wednesday forced the Hopewell-Mount Lebanon game to move to Baldwin High School. That game was one of several games pitting top teams from Class AAAA against elite teams from Class AAA on the fourth Friday of the high school football season. Call it the storm after the storm as the fourth week of the 2010 District 7 and District 8 high school football season kicked off Thursday. Two games included a clash of 2-1 Class AAAA teams in WPIAL non-conference action that was heard here on MSA Sports. Here are the two final results. Much to her surprise, however, she was not missed over the first two weeks. A rainy Thursday night grew the Saturday schedule by one as the third week of the high school football season concludes.
