Trinity Edges Woodland Hills for WPIAL Rifle Crown

Days after the championship of the National Football League went to overtime to determine the winner, the 2017 WPIAL Team Rifle title wasn't decided until a tiebreaker gave a slim edge to Trinity over Woodland Hills. The Hillers edged the Wolverines 800 - 63x - 69x to 800 - 63x - 68x, ending Woodland Hills three year run as district team champions. The one additional bulls-eye gave Trinity their district leading 18th Team Rifle championship but first title since 2011. Here are all of the championship scores. WPIAL Boys Sports Realignment

We all knew it was coming. A major change to the WPIAL high school sports landscape based on the PIAA's decision to increase from four to six classifications in football, basketball and baseball, plus the increase in other sports such as soccer and lacrosse. The WPIAL Board of Control approved the various steering committee's re-alignment suggestions starting with the 2016-2017 school year. Woodland Hills Three-Peats as WPIAL Team Rifle Champs

The sharp shooters at Woodland Hills High School have earned another gold bulls-eye for the Wolverines. Woodland Hills scored a final total of 800-59x to edge out Hempfield and win a third straight WPIAL Team Rifle championship Wednesday at the Dormont/Mount Lebanon Sportsman's Club in Canonsburg. The Wolverines beat out the Spartans in a close finish after Hempfield ended with a total 800-57x. Butler finished third in the team finals with a score of 799-65x, followed by Waynesburg (799-50x), Mount Lebanon (797-58x) and McGuffey (795-57x).

Woodland Hills Mike Krivi Wins WPIAL Rifle Title

In a span of 48-hours, Woodland Hills senior sharp shooter Mike Krivi became the golden boy on the range. After helping the wolverines win a second straight district team championship on Tuesday, Krivi won the individual title Thursday at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg. Krivi was one of 18 shooters to score a 200, but claimed the gold after hitting 19 bulls-eyes. In doing so, he becomes the first Woodland Hills shooter to win the individual crown. Krivi finished 10th in last years WPIAL finals. Woodland Hills Repeats as WPIAL Rifle Champs

Woodland Hills High School claimed their second straight district rifle championship and third in the last four years by registering a perfect score of 800 Tuesday afternoon in the 2015 WPIAL Team Rifle Finals at the Dormont-Mt.Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg. The team score of 800 (69x) was the second highest score in the WPIAL Team Championship history, just behind the record set by the Wolverines last year of 800 (74x). Two other schools registered perfect scores as Trinity finished second with a score of 800 (64x) and McGuffey was third with an 800 (56x). 2013 champion Hempfield finished fourth with a score of 799 while Butler (797) and Waynesburg (795) finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Woodland Hills Aims and Claims Team Rifle Gold

Woodland Hills High School claimed their second district rifle championship in the last three years by registering a perfect score of 800 Tuesday afternoon in the 2014 WPIAL Team Rifle finals at the Dormont-Mt.Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg. The Wolverines had three of their shooters register perfect scores of 100 with 10 bulls-eyes in Becca DeVito, Seamus McGuigan and Laura Valenti. The team score of 800 (74x) was the highest score in the WPIAL Team Championship history, breaking the mark set by Woodland Hills of 800 (65x) in 2012. Defending champion Hempfield finished in second place with a score of 799 (64x). Bethel Park was third with 797 (60x). The fourth through six place finishers were McGuffey (797-55x), Avella (797-50x) and Butler (795-53x).

Hempfield Jr Abbie Bache Guns Down WPIAL Rifle Title
February 15, 2013
Two days after leading Hempfield to the WPIAL Team Rifle championship, Spartans junior Abbie Bache captured gold in the Individual Finals Thursday afternoon at the Dormont/Mount Lebanon Sportsmens Club in Canonsburg. Bache becomes the second Spartans shooter in a two to win individual rifle gold after former teammate Nicole Metz won it in 2012.Bache shot a 200-19X with eight center shots to win the title. Trinity's Kayla Huffman beat out McGuffey's Courtney Stiles in a tiebreaker for the silver medal. Both shot a 200-19x with five center shots.

Hempfield Captures 2013 WPIAL Team Rifle Title

For only the second time in school history, the Hempfield Spartans are the master marksmen as they won the 2013 WPIAL Team Rifle championship Tuesday afternoon at the Dormont/Mount Lebanon Sportsmens Club in Canonsburg.Hempfield, which also won the title in 2010, finished with a score of 800-66x to edge out defending champion Woodland Hills which finished with a score of 800-57x. Hempfield’s Nicole Metz on Target, Wins 2012 WPIAL Rifle Title

The girls ruled the day at the 2012 WPIAL Individual Rifle Championship Thursday afternoon at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmens Club in Canonsburg. When the 'smoke' cleared, girls claimed the top ten spots, led by Hempfield's Nicole Metz.Metz, the runner-up a year ago, finished with a final total of 200-18x, one of five shooters to register the same score. Woodland Hills Shoots For Gold, Wins 2012 Team Rifle Title

For the first time in 14 years, Woodland Hills High School is celebrating a WPIAL Team Rifle Championship.  Tuesday afternoon at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg, the Wolverines edged second pace Hempfield to claim the schools third rifle title and first since 1998.  Woody High's first championship was in 1992.Brendan Boyle, Colin Letson, Chuck Pantalone and Quinn Rouse all shot a 100-9x to lead the way for Woodland Hills, while Miranda Johnston and Mario Scaramouche shot a 100-8x.The Wolverines ' score of 800-65x was four better than runner-up Hempfield, which shot an 800-61x. Avella finished third  with a score of 799-58x. The defending champion Trinity Hillers finished in fourth place.

A new champion was crowned Thursday in the 2011 WPIAL Individual Rifle Championships at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg. McGuffey senior John Hupp bested the rest of the field to win his first district shooting championship.
