DAILY high school sporting events start coming your way as we settle into September this week here on the MSA Sports Network. Between Thursday and Saturday, we will have FORTY-ONE WPIAL and District 6 high school football games with Fridays action starting with the MSA Sports Pregame Show and concluding with the one and only MSA Sports/WPIAL High School Football Scoreboard Show. What better way to celebrate America's Birthday and the end of another school year than with a parade. It has been another great high school sports year. Neil Walker is known for his baseball talent. The current Pirates second baseman had an unforgettable baseball career at Pine-Richland High School and was a first-round draft pick. But it is what Walker also did in other sports that helped earn him a spot in the WPIAL Hall of Fame. The WPIAL Hall of Fame class for 2012 was announced Thursday at a news conference, and Walker was one of the selections. Walker was in Los Angeles with the Pirates, but his father was at the news conference at the Heinz History Center in the Strip District. Walker had a terrific baseball career at Pine-Richland, starting four seasons and batting .504 for his career. He hit .657 as a senior with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and a 1.403 slugging percentage for a WPIAL championship team.WPIAL Boys and Girls Soccer Realignment for 2012 and 2013

2011 has been a tremendous year in high school sports in the WPIAL. It was a year where some familiar champions wore the golden crown again while some new faces surfaced in the championship picture. Mars proved their girls soccer team is out of this world Friday when they captured the schools first ever state title as the Planets blanked the previously undefeated Villa Jospeh Marie Jems 1-0 at Hersheypark Stadium. Hopewell’s Rushel Shell has a chance to break the state career rushing record in Friday night’s WPIAL Quarterfinals against Franklin Regional. The fall sports postseason continues for high school football while the winter high school and college sports season begins in the first full week of November this week on the MSA Sports Network.2011 PIAA Girls Soccer Playoffs
Twelve WPIAL girls soccer teams entered the state playoffs which started Tuesday, and nine are moving on to Round Two this weekend. Only Penn-Trafford, Elizabeth Forward and Avonworth saw their golden state dreams come to an end, while three district teams remain in the hunt for a title in the 2011 PIAA Girls Soccer Playoffs.2011 PIAA Boys Soccer Playoffs

Seton-LaSalle was the top-seed and defending champion. They were supposed to be there. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart was the 11th-seed with few outside of the program expecting them to still be playing into November. The rivalry between the Upper St. Clair Panthers and the Peters Township Indians spilled over from football into both the Girls and Boys AAA Soccer Championships. It was a repeat performance for Hampton, and for the 2nd straight season, the Talbots are the WPIAL Boys Class-AA champions. Hampton scored 3 first half goals and used a stifling defense to hold the 14th seeded Leopards at bay for their 20th consecutive win.
