The Chartiers-Houston softball team clinched second place in Section 3-2A with a 16-6 win over rival Burgettstown on Tuesday at Allison Elementary School in Houston.

The Bucs sent 13 players to the plate in the first inning, scoring nine runs on seven hits. The big hits were an RBI double by Jaylen Lombardi, and RBI singles by Ella Brookman, Kaylen Bauer and Shalylen Vancyock, and a two-run single by Kaci Anderson.

They plated two more runs in the second inning on two hits. Kasey Sears provided the spark with an RBI single.

The Blue Devils couldn't get to Buc starter Katelyn Detrick. Through three innings, Detrick didn't allow a hit and only allowed two base runners. However, Burgettstown started to chip away in the fourth inning.

The Blue Devils (1-11, 1-8) scored two runs on three hits, including a two-out double by Jordan Baronick that scored two runs. They tacked on four more runs in the fifth, as Tori Carney hit a grand slam to cut the deficit to 11-6.

Chartiers-Houston responded with three more runs on two hits in the bottom of the fifth. Detrick hit a line drive two-run single to put the Bucs ahead 14-6. They finished things off in the bottom of the sixth, as Anderson hit a walk-off two-run home run to intact the mercy rule and give the Bucs a 16-6 win.

Detrick picked up the win, allowing two runs on three hits in four innings. She struck out eight , walked one and hit a batter. All the Bucs reached base at least once. Sears had four singles and reached base five times, Anderson went 3 for 4 with three hits and four RBIs, and Lauren Lober went 3 for 4 with three runs scored.

The Bucs (11-2, 7-2) will finish section play at Fort Cherry on Wednesday.

Before the game, seniors from both teams were honored — Chartiers Houston Detrick and Burgetttown's Hannah Abbott and Tori Crane.
