For a kid who has his college right there in his last name, Pitt seems like a perfect fit.

Dylan Pitzer to Pitt sings.

The Derry senior football player announced Monday he is accepting a preferred walk-on offer to play at Pitt, the only Division I school to make him an offer.

The imposing two-way lineman will make his commitment official Wednesday, which is NCAA National Signing Day.

“Pitt felt like home,” Pitzer said. “I know Pitt will develop me into the best I can be. I see my college career going great — my best football is ahead of me.”

The 6-foot-7, 275-pound Pitzer will join his brother, Dayton, in Oakland. Dayton Pitzer is a redshirt junior on the wrestling team.

H2P — Hail to Pitzer.

“We are gonna make history,” Dylan Pitzer said.

Dylan Pitzer had a breakthrough senior season for the Trojans, earning Class 3A all-state honors while being named the Interstate Conference Lineman of the Year.

He was a first team all-conference pick at offensive tackle and defensive end.

Pitzer was the Class 3A finalist for the Bill Fralic Memorial Award which recognizes the WPIAL’s best two-way lineman.

Pitzer, who gave up wrestling this year to lock in on football, had Division II offers from IUP, Clarion and Glenville State.

He had 67 tackles, 15 hurries and 10 sacks this season. He added a safety and blocked a field goal.

Lenart to Lehigh

Norwin senior linebacker Josh Lenart also committed to a Division I program Monday, joining Lehigh of the FCS Patriot League.

Lenart, who will be on scholarship, had 28 tackles, six for loss, two sacks and one interception this season as Norwin made the WPIAL 6A playoffs for the first time since 2017.

One of Norwin coach Mike Brown’s most valuable players, he added 15 receptions for 145 yards and two TDs on offense.

Another Norwin alum, Luke Denny, is a sophomore back at Lehigh.
