Derry sending 10 wrestlers to WPIAL championships

Derry had four wrestlers earn titles Friday at the Section 1-AA tournament at Canon-McMillan. Taking first were Tyler Cymmerman (120 pounds), Onreey Stewart (138), Gannon Lenhart (160) and Dominic DeLuca (220).

Fellow Trojans Colton McCallen (106), Kace Sabedra (113), Shawn Broadway (126), Jason Baker (132), Dominik Jellison (145) and Trey Weinell (152) also advanced to Saturday's WPIAL championships.

Mt. Pleasant had three Section 2 champions – Doug Bittner (113), Alex Miscovich (132) and Cody Vokes (285). Damian George (106), Zac Presock (160), Alex Shafley (170) and Zack Charlesworth (195) also qualified for WPIALs.

Southmoreland's Tyler Griffiths won the 145-pound title, and Jaden Datz was the 170-pound runner-up. Devin Brubacher (132), Austin McBeth (138), Kullen McCoy (152) and Ryan Mauro (220) also advanced.

Jake Sever (170) took third for Yough.

District 6 tournament

Ligonier Valley Alex Caldwell (145 pounds) and Robby Patrick (170) each earned a spot in the District 6 Class AA semifinals with victories. Caldwell secured two pinfalls in a total of 47 seconds, and Patrick notched two pins in a total of 1:08. Ligonier Valley's Nicholas Huskey (152), Colton Rashilla (160), Ethan Boring (182) and Robert Maxwell (195) are alive in the consolation rounds.
