District College Football Preview for Saturday, November 9th – 11/09/2012

It's the final week of the regular season for Division II and Division III, while the NEC has one more week.

The PSAC will have the State Title Game with an NCAA berth likely to the winner, the PAC has Rivarly Week with the Backyard Brawl deciding the conference title.

Here are previews of ALL the games, including 3 that can be heard on the network.

Bloomsburg(9-1) at Slippery Rock(6-4)  1 pm on WLER 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports Network.
# 12 Bloomsburg is fighting for a NCAA playoff berth and needs a win to cement that spot. The Huskies defeated West Chester 24-23 last week. Bloomsburg's only loss is to Shippensburg. The Huskies are 4th in the NCAA Super Region 1 rankings.
 

WR Ryan Dickson has caught a td pass in 6 straight games. QB Tim Kelly has thrown for 1,585 yards and 20 td's.
 

RB Franklyn Quiteh has been near the top of the D-II rushing leaders all season. Quiteh ran for 121 yards last week, he has 18 touchdowns on the season and 1,743 rushing yards.
 

LB Justin Shirk made 14 tackles in last week's game, he was named PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week.
 

The defense forced 4 West Chester turnovers last week. The win gave coach Danny Hale his 212 win, tying him for second in PSAC history.
 

The Rock has won 4 straight games, defeating Lock Haven 35-7 last week.
 

Nigel Barksdale took over as the starter midway thru the season and has shined for the Rock. Barksdale has thrown for 1,451 yards and 14 touchdowns. The junior qb has also ran for 7 scores.
 

Akeem Satterfield returned to the lineup last week, Satterfield has ran for 642 yards but only 4 touchdowns this season.
 

LaQuinn Stephens-Howling is the leading receiver with 34 catches and 433 yards with 5 touchdowns.
 

LB's Gary Allen and Quindell Dean lead the Rock in tackles with 81 and 72 on the season.
 

Bloomsburg and the Rock have not squared off since 1995, the Huskies have won the last 8 meetings.
 

PSAC STATE TITLE GAME:  Shippensburg(10-0) at IUP(9-1) 2pm
It's a battle of Division II's best offense in Shippensburg against the top defense in D-II in IUP.
 

The 7th ranked Red Raiders come into the title game on a 14 game winning streak. Shippensburg is the top team in the NCAA Super Region 1 rankings and looks to be headed to the D-II playoffs no matter what happens in the title game.
 

Shippensburg averages 566 yards per game to lead the NCAA, they average 52.7 points per game, second best in the nation.
 

QB Zach Zulli is 274-411 for 3,845 yards passing with 49 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions. His top receivers are Jacob Baskerville with 64 catches and 1,075 yards. Trevor Harmon has 60 catches for 975 yards.
 

RB Mike Frenette leads the Red Raiders with 729 yards rushing.
 

IUP is ranked 13th in the latest AFCA D-II Top 25, however the Crimson Hawks are ranked 5th in the Super Region 1 rankings, IUP clinches a berth with a win, the Crimson Hawks could be on the outside looking in with a loss.
 

Harvie Tuck is third in D-II in rushing at 154 yards per game. Tuck has ran for 1,548 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. The senior left the game last week against Gannon in the second quarter with an injury and did not return.
 

QB MIke Box might be counted on more if Tuck can't go. Box threw for 171 yards on 13-18 and 2 touchdowns last week.
 

Johnny Franco helped the Crimson Hawks claim the PSAC West title with the win last week over Gannon. Franco picked off 2 passes last week, he was named PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week.
 

IUP played West Chester in the State Title Game in 1987, winning 21-9. Shippensburg won the championship game in 1981, as a member of the West, defeating Millersville 34-17.
 

IUP leads the series 44-17-4, the Crimson Hawks have won 20 straight meetings. The teams have not met since 2006 when the Red Raiders were a West Division member.

W & J(7-2) at Waynesburg(9-0)  1:30 pm on WJPA 1450-AM and the MSA Sports Network
The 40th Backyard Brawl will decide the PAC title for 2012. W & J has won the last 8 straight games, they lead the series 36-3.
 

Should W & J win, it would be their first PAC title since 2007.
 

QB Matt Bliss threw for 156 yards and a td, he also ran for a score. Bliss has 1,706 yards passing, 3rd in the conference, he has 9 touchdowns but 12 interceptions.
 

WR Alex Baroffio made 9 catches last week, he is 2nd in the PAC with 63 catches. Hunter Creel has 49 grabs.
 

RB Dion Wiegand is 8th in the conference in rushing with 60 yards per game. Wiegand has ran for 547 yards.
 

Eric Eberle was named PAC Special Teams Player of the Week. He drilled 2 field goals and 3 extra points and averaged 42 yards per punt last week. Eberle has made 5 consecutive field goals and 24 straight extra points. Eberle has made 10 field goals this season, he needs one more to tie the single season high, held by Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl with 11 in 2002.
 

Ian Hennessy made 14 tackles last week.
 

Waynesburg had the bye last week. The Yellow Jackets clinch the PAC title and a NCAA playoff berth with a win.
 

The Yellow Jackets moved up 6 spots to 13th in the latest AFCA D-III poll.
Waynesburg leads the PAC in rushing offense and rushing and scoring defense.
 

Betrand Ngampa is 2nd in the PAC in rushing at 82 yards per game, he has 739 yards on the season.
 

Waynesburg has played with backup QB Carter Hill over the last few games. Tyler Fatigante suffered a shoulder injury, he has seen limited time at WR.
 

Westminster(3-5) at Geneva(2-7)  1pm on WBVP 1230-AM and the MSA Sports Network.
It's known as The Game, as the teams meet for the 115th time. Westminster leads the series 62-44-8, but Geneva has won the last 2 meetings.
 

Westminster fell 16-10 to Thiel last week. QB Dak Britt threw for 150 yards, he was sacked 5 times.
 

RB Tyler Banks is 4th in the PAC in rushing.
 

Geneva fell to W & J 27-17 last week, giving Geneva their worst season since 1978.
 

Rocco Colavecchia is 3rd in the PAC with 722 yards rushing, Colvecchia leads the PAC with 17 touchdowns but was held off the board last week.
 

Zach Hayward has thrown for 1,705 yards with 14 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
 

WR's Corey O'Patchen has 46 catches, Jordan Curry has 44 for the Golden Tornadoes. 
 

Dillion Goodell leads the PAC with 85 tackles, he made 13 stops last week.
 

East Stroudsburg(5-4) at Mercyhurst(8-2)  Noon
This crossover matchup features the best pass defense in the PSAC in Mercyhurst against the worst pass defense in East Stroudburg. Mercyhurst is second in the conference in scoring and total defense.
 

The Warriors are coming off a 62-14 over Millersville. QB Matt Soltes was named PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week for the 3rd time this season. Soltes accounted for 382 yards of offense and 4 touchdowns in the win.
 

The Lakers knocked Cal out of the PSAC title picture with a 40-7 home win.

Brandon Brown-Dukes leads the Lakers with 15 touchdowns, he has ran for 1,097 yards. Allen Jones is also a threat in the backfield with 571 rushing yards. DB Linnell Robinson had an interception return for a touchdown.
 

Mercyhurst is not ranked in the AFCA Top 25, but is 9th in the NCAA Super Region 1 rankings. The top 6 teams advance to the D-II playoff field, the Lakers would need a big win and some help to receive a post-season berth.
 

It's the first meeting between the teams.
 

LIU Post(3-5) at Gannon(2-8)  Noon
This will be the final PSAC game for the Pioneers, who are leaving the league for next season, LIU Post will be replaced by Seton Hill in the conference. The Griffins will go to the West Division, while Lock Haven will move into the East.
 

LIU Post's game with Kutztown was postponed last week after Hurricane Sandy, no word if it will be made up next week. QB Steve Laurino has thrown 14 touchdown passes, he has ran for 7 more.
 

Gannon fell to IUP 38-35 last week at home. QB Liam Nadler has thrown for 2,575 yards and 17 touchdowns, that is good for 3rd in the conference.

Abraham Ocasio has 886 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. Ocasio is the 3rd best pass catcher in the PSAC.
 

The Golden Knights have the 2nd best passing defense in the conference. The Pioneers are 15th of 16 teams in 3 of the 4 major defensive columns.
 

Kutztown(5-4) at Edinboro(4-5)  Noon
Kutztown did not play last week against LIU Post due to Hurricane Sandy. QB Kevin Morton leads the offense with 2,785 yards passing and 29 touchdowns. RB Curtis Wortham has ran for 764 yards and 14 touchdowns.
 

The Golden Bears are 2nd in the PSAC and in the top 10 in D-II in scoring offense at 47 points per game, passing and total offense.
 

Edinboro defeated Clarion 48-13 last week. QB Cody Harris has thrown for 2,100 yards and 13 touchdowns, Harris has ran for 8 scores.
 

Kenny Pettis leads the Boro' defense, he has 98 tackles, good for 2nd in the PSAC, he has also picked off 2 passes.
 

West Chester(6-4) at Clarion(4-6)  1pm
Truly a Golden battle this week at Memorial Stadium as the Golden Eagles and Golden Rams square off.
 

West Chester fell 24-23 last week to Bloomsburg. RB Rondell White has ran for 1,321 yards and 10 touchdowns. QB Mike Mattei has thrown for 2,350 yards and 25 td's. Ronell While leads the PSAC with 111 stops.
 

The Clarion offense runs thru QB Ben Fiscus. Fiscus has thrown for 2,296 yards and 14 touchdowns, he also leads the Golden Eagles in rushing with 636 yards, he has scored 5 touchdowns.
 

Cheyney(1-9) at Lock Haven(0-10)  1pm
Could this be the week that the streak ends. Lock Haven has lost 52 straight games, the longest losing streak in NCAA D-II history and the longest current streak on any level of NCAA play.
 

Cheyney lost to Shippensburg 61-9. Lock Haven fell to Slippery Rock 35-7. The game features the two worst offenses in the PSAC.
 

Millersville(2-8) at California(7-3)  3:30pm
Millersville fell to East Stroudsburg 62-14. QB's Ted Stachitas and Conner Casey split the snaps.
 

Cal was beaten by Mercyhurst 40-7 last week. The Vulcans have fallen out of the top 25 and will likely see their 8 season NCAA playoff streak come to an end, Cal is 10th in the NCAA Super Region 1 rankings, only the top 6 advance.
 

Rontez Miles and Brett Diamond are tied for the team lead in tackles with 72.

Saint Vincent(0-9) at Bethany(2-7)  1pm
Bethany leads the series 4-1, with this the 6th Green Game. The Bearcats took last year's game, leading to the first winnng season since football came back in 2007. Unfortunately it was also the last win for Saint Vincent, who has dropped 10 straight.
 

Saint Vincent fell 27-10 to Grove City last week. 4 quarterbacks took snaps for the Bearcats, including senior Kevin Corona, who had missed most of the last 3 seasons and had not thrown a td pass since 2009.
 

Bethany fell 13-10 in overtime to Thomas More last week. QB Matt Grimard has completed 205 passes this season, breaking the single season record. Ed Holmes had 9 catches last week, Jonathan Foster had 8.
 

Thiel(3-6) at Grove City(5-4) 1:30pm
The Mercer County Cup is on the line for the 29th time. Grove City leads 19-9 and has won the last 5 meetings. The game also features the two best defenses in the PAC.
 

Thiel defeated Westminster 16-10 last week. Brandon Wolfe returned a blocked punt for a td. Kicker Johnny Fennick was plucked off the soccer team a few weeks ago, he hit his 2nd field goal of the season. QB Andrew Smith threw for 160 yards, his 4th quarter td run sealed the win for the Tomcats.
 

Grove City defeated Saint Vincent 27-10 last week. Shane Kaclik ran for 109 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win, he was named PAC Offensive Player of the Week. Kaclik leads the PAC with 1,028 yards rushing.
 

The Wolverines are the least penalized team in the PAC.
 

Seton Hill(0-10) at Glenville State(5-5)  1pm
The Griffins have lost 12 straight games and will play their final game as a WVIAC school. Seton Hill will move into the PSAC West next season.
 

Seton Hill comes off a 52-45 loss to St. Anselm last week. QB Andrew Jackson threw for 543 yards on 38 completions and 4 touchdowns in the loss. D.J. Carter was the top receiver with 12 catches for 171 yards.
 

The Pioneers fell 34-23 at Shepherd. Justin Fegin threw for 213 yards and 2 scores. Demetruis Quarles returned an interception for a td for Glenville State, who is 5-2 in the conference.
 

The Pioneers have won the last 3 meetings and lead the series 3-2.
 

Carnegie Mellon(6-3) at Case Western Reserve(5-4)  1pm
It's the 27th Academic Bowl between the two teams, the Tartans lead the series 15-11, but Case Western has won the last 5 games.
 

QB Rob Kalkstein has thrown for 1,787 yards this season, he needs 177 yards to better the single season mark. Kalkstein has thrown 13 touchdowns this season with just 4 interceptions.
 

WR Tim Kitka needs just 32 yards to take the single season receiving mark. Kitka has 35 catches for 737 yards.
 

RB Patrick Blanks leads the Tartans with 661 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.
 

DB Liam McGrath has picked off 6 passes this season, he needs one more to tie the single season record.
 

The Spartans fell to Washington University 10-7 last week. QB Eric Olson, formerly of Bethel Park, has thrown for 1,512 yards and 13 touchdowns. WR's Sean Lapcevic(Char Valley) and Brian Rice(New Castle) have 35 and 26 catches respectively.
 

Allegheny(4-5) at Hiram(0-9)  1pm
The Gators are still looking for their 500th victory, falling to Ohio Wesleyan 34-7 last week. Tim Worley ran for 104 yards on 26 carries and the only score for Allegheny, now 3-3 in the NCAC.
 

Werley leads the Gators with 379 yards rushing. Derrick Emigh has 38 catches, Andrew Nicklaus 35 to lead Allegheny.
 

The Terriers were crushed by Wittenberg 71-7 last week. QB Zach Bailey threw for 142 yards and ran for the only score. Allegheny leads the series 30-10-2 and has won the last 10 meetings.
 

Robert Morris(3-6) at Sacred Heart(2-7)  Noon
The Colonials are 2-4 in the NEC, and are winless on the road this season. RMU defeated Duquesne 17-13 in Moon Township last week. Jeff Sinclair ran for a td and hit Duane Mitchell for a 41 yard strike with 12:15 remaining to take the lead for good.
 

Evan Taylor is 7th in the NEC in rushing at 76 yards per game, he has not scored a td this season. Sinclair is 5th with 1,297 yards, he has thrown 11 tds. Donte Jeter has only 30 catches but 582 yards and 5 touchdowns.
 

The Pioneers are 1-5 in the NEC and come off a 34-14 loss to Bryant. QB Tim Little has thrown for 855 yards, he has 5 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

Saint Francis(3-6) at Monmouth(4-4)  Noon
The Red Flash are 2-4 in the NEC and come off a bye week.  Saint Francis still has 2 of the top 10 rushers in the league, Keion Wade at 874 yards and QB John Kelly at 685. Kelly has thrown for 1,025 yards and 9 touchdowns.
 

The Hawks are 3-2 in conference play, their game with Central Connecticut State was cancelled last week due to Hurricane Sandy. Kyle Fraizer leads the NEC in passing at 240 yards per game, he has 15 touchdowns. Julian Hayes has ran for 463 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Albany(7-2) at Duquesne(5-4)  12:10pm
The Great Danes are 5-1 in the NEC, after a 30-0 shutout loss to Wagner last week. Albany would need to win out and have Wagner lose next week to have any chance of the conference title and a repeat NCAA bid. 
 

Albany was held to 188 total yards last week. Drew Smith is 4th in the NEC with 783 yards rushing, he has scored 14 touchdowns. Will Fiacchi has thrown for 1,774 yards with 9 td's. Fiacchi is 4th in the NEC passing race. 

The Dukes are 3-3, falling to RMU last week. Sean Patterson threw for 195 yards and a score, but the Dukes settled for two Charlie Leventry field goals.
 

Larry McCoy leads the NEC with 926 yards rushing. Patterson is 3rd in passing with 1,897 yards, he has thrown 15 td and 6 interceptions. Gianni

Carter is 2nd in the NEC with 713 yards on 50 catches.
