District College Football Recap for Saturday, November 10th

On the final full week of college football in the district, championships were decided in the PSAC and PAC and two teams posted historical wins…..Could one of those teams be Lock Haven, read more to find out.

The NCAA will post playoff fields in both D-II and D-III later today, here are recaps of all the games, including 3 heard here on the Network:

PSAC State Title Game:  IUP 41 – Shippensburg 10
The 13th ranked Crimson Hawks held Division II's number one offense to just 10 points as IUP claimed the PSAC title and likely an NCAA playoff berth with the win at George P. Miller Stadium.

Mike Box threw for 178 yards on 11-16 and 3 touchdowns, all to Terrill Barnes. The Crimson Hawks defense, ranked number one in D-II held Harlon Hill candidate Zach Zulli to just 205 yards passing with a touchdown and 2 interceptions. Shippensburg was ranked 7th entering the game. 
 

IUP scored on the opening drive, Brett Ullman kicked a 48 yard field goal. Shippensburg drove deep on their first possession, but Alexander Berdahl intercepted Zulli at the goal line to end the threat. De'Antwan Williams scored on a 59 yard run, 4 plays after the interception and IUP was up 10-0. The Red Raiders got on the board with a Michael Lloyd 33 yard field goal, but Box hit Barnes on a 48 yard post pattern to put the Crimson Hawks up by 14 after 15 minutes.
 

Zulli led the Red Raiders down the field late in the second, hitting Trevor Harman for a 26 yard touchdown, but there was still 2:36 to play in the half. Box and Barnes hooked up again in the corner of the end zone for a 15 yard score and a 27-10 halftime lead.
 

After a scoreless third quarter, the Box-Barnes tag team struck again, this time for 11 yards and a third score to put the game out of reach. Carl Fleming jumped a Shippensburg route and went 40 yards down the sideline for a touchdown. Fleming made 12 tackles and broke up 2 passes, he was named the game's MVP.
 

Barnes had 7 catches for 124 yards, Williams, filling in for an injured Harvie Tuck, ran 30 times for 129 yards. IUP is now 10-1 and will wait till 5 pm Sunday to see the NCAA D-II playoff field. It's the first state championship for IUP since the game was brought back in 2009, the last victory for IUP was in 1987.
 

Shippensburg is now 10-1 overall, the Red Raiders were sitting atop the NCAA regional rankings entering the title game. Winston-Salem, New Haven, Bloomsburg were 2-3-4 in the rankings, all 3 of those teams won, IUP was #5, they also will await the NCAA field announcement.
 

Bloomsburg 49 – Slippery Rock 41
The 12th ranked Huskies took a huge step towards making the NCAA D-II field with the shootout win at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. The win likely puts Bloomsburg in the playoffs, they were ranked 4th entering this weekend in the regional rankings. Bloomsburg led by 29 at the half and survived a furious Rock comeback in the final 30 minutes.

Jared Buck got the start at quarterback for the Rock, he threw for a career high 345 yards and a score, but he was outdone by Huskies running back Franklyn Quiteh, who ran for 183 yards on 24 carries and 4 touchdowns.
Bloomsburg opened the scoring on their first drive, Tim Kelly hitting Ryan Dickerson for a 35 yard touchdown. Quiteh scored on a 1 yard run on the second drive and the Huskies were up 14-0. Slippery Rock answered that score, Buck went in from 8 yards out to cut the deficit to 8, the extra point was blocked.
 

Quiteh scored on a 1 yard run on the second play of the 2nd quarter, the td was set up by a 53 yard run by Eddie Mateo. The teams traded turnovers, Buck scored on his second 8 yard td run of the day, but Quiteh scored again on a 7 yard run, this time set up by a Kelly to Dickerson 44 yard pass.

Bloomsburg took advantage of an Akeem Satterfield fumble, Kelly went to Kyle Fisher for 41 yards and a score, it would get worse for the Rock, Tony David blocked a James McCombie punt and Larry Webster returned it 18 yards for a score and a 42-13 lead late in the half.
 

Dan Fisher had a chance to add to the lead on the first drive of the 3rd, but missed from 31 yards out on a field goal attempt, that was the break the Rock needed. Buck led a 10 play drive, Brett Crenshaw scored from 3 yards out. The Rock drove on the next possession to the Huskies 21 but Buck was sacked on 4th and 4, turning the ball over to end the quarter.
 

The 4th quarter started out great for the Rock, Austin Miele picked off Kelly and set up a Jaimire Dutrieulle 16 yard touchdown. Akeem Satterfield scored on a 12 yard run with 7:40 left to cut it to 42-34. But Quiteh, helped by a Rock personal foul, scored on a 21 yard run with 5 minutes to play to put the Huskies back up 2 scores. Slippery Rock scored on a 17 play drive with 45 seconds left, Buck to Andrew Bridgeforth for a 20 yard touchdown, the Rock could not recover a popup kick and Bloomsburg ran out the clock.
 

Kelly was 10-17 for 185 yards for Bloomsburg, Dickerson had 6 catches for 113 yards. For the Rock, Satterfield carried 29 times for 181 yards in his final game at SRU. The Rock finishes at 6-5.
 

W & J 31 – Waynesburg 14
In the 40th Backyard Brawl, the Presidents handed the 13th ranked Yellow Jackets their first loss of the season to win their 23rd PAC title and an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs, their first trip since 2009. W & J has now won 9 straight over Waynesburg and leads the series 37-3.
 

The win might be the sweetest in the rich tradition of W & J. On October 4th, starting running back Tim McNerney was killed during an altercation on the campus. The Presidents dedicated the season to their captain and handed the PAC trophy to the McNerney family during the post-game celebration.
 

The Presidents scored on their opening possession, Matt Bliss hit Dan Lucas for a 26 yard td, Waynesburg answered with a Betrand Ngampa 5 yard touchdown. Eight plays into the 2nd quarter, Bliss connected with Alex Baroffio for a 19 yard score and a 14-7 lead. The W & J defense held on a 4th and 1 at the 42, Bliss went to Baroffio again for a 3 yard td and a 14 point lead at the break.
 

Christian Jackson returned a punt 41 yards for a touchdown in the 3rd to cut the W & J lead to 7. The Presidents returned the score 5 plays later, Bliss to Baroffio for a 3rd touchdown, this time 62 yards. Eric Eberle added a field goal in the 4th quarter and the Presidents headed north on I-79 with the conference title.
 

Bliss was 21-26 for 251 yards. Baroffio 11 catches for 139 yards. W & J is now 8-2 overall. Ngampa led Waynesburg with 144 yards on 22 carries. The Yellow Jackets are 9-1 and wait to see if they will be included in the D-III field which will be announced later today.

Geneva 33 – Westminster 14
In what is simply known as "The Game", Geneva wins it's 3rd straight over Westminster in the 115th meeting between the two schools. The Golden Tornadoes notched 28 first downs and 487 yards of offense to send their fans home happy from Reeves Field.

Rocco Colavecchia scored three times for Geneva, he ran for 68 yards and 2 scores, he also caught a 7 yard td pass from Zach Hayward on the game's opening drive. Westminster tied the game in the 2nd quarter on a Dak Britt 62 yard td pass to Logan Belinda. Geneva answered with a Colavecchia 1 yard run. Bryan Visingardi kicked a 32 yard field goal on the final play of the half, Geneva led 17-7 at intermission.
 

Hayward led the GT's to a score on the opening drive of the 3rd, hitting Corey O'Patchen for a 46 yard touchdown. Geneva looked like it was going to put the game out of reach, Jake Delmonico intercepted Britt and took it 61 yards to the Westminster 12. But Kyle Allen would have none of that, he picked off Hayward on the 2nd play of the drive and went 92 yards for a Pick 6, to make the score 24-14 after 3.
 

Visingardi kicked a 26 yard field goal 89 seconds into the final quarter. Colavecchia scored on the next drive, on a 2 yard run to end the scoring. Westminster had a 1st and goal at the 10, but Britt was called for intentional grounding, sending the Titans back to the 31, they did not score.
 

Hayward finished 22-33 for 224 yards, O'Patchen caught 8 passes for 108 yards. Dylan Jones ran 13 times for 55 yards for Geneva, who wraps up at 3-7. Westminster was held to 70 yards rushing, the Titans finish 3-6.

Lock Haven 15 – Cheyney 7
IT'S OVER…….After a 52 game losing streak, the Bald Eagles come away with a win at Hubert Jack Stadium. Lock Haven had not won a game since beating Clarion in overtime in the final game of the 2007 season. Branden Brader ran 23 times for 110 yards to help the Bald Eagles over the top.

Lock Haven took the opening kickoff and marched down the field but QB Jarrett Kratzer fumbled on the 1 yard line. However the Lock Haven defense forced a Tyler Willkinson fumble in the end zone, Cheyney recovered for a safety and a 2-0 Bald Eagle lead after one. Alex Boumerhi kicked a 37 yard field goal early in the 2nd to put the Bald Eagles up 5 at the break.
 

Lock Haven scored in the 4th quarter taking advantage of a short punt by Willkinson and a good return by Bernard Smack. Beau Swales scored from 2 yards out with 14:23 remaining, the SRO crowd was on it's feet with a 12-0 lead. Cheyney answered with a Marcus Jones 11 yard run with just under 10 minutes to play. Smack returned the ensuing kickoff to midfield, the Bald Eagles marched down the field to a 1st and goal at the 9, but could not score on 3 tries, Lock Haven settled for a 23 yard field goal for Noah Heimer.
 

But the Lock Haven defense stood up, they did not allow another first down the rest of the way and the Bald Eagles ran out the clock for the win.
 

Kratzer was 10-19 for 127 yards. The Bald Eagles finish at 1-10. The losing streak is the longest in D-II history and was the longest current streak on any level of NCAA play. Jones carried 19 times for 135 yards, the Wolves also finish 1-10.
 

Allegheny 13 – Hiram 0
The Gators go on the road and pick up the 500th win in the program's history. Tim Werley ran for 130 yards on 32 carries. The Allegheny defense held the Terriers to just 110 yards of offense, picking up their first shutout in over two years.

Ryan Mong kicked field goals of 21 and 37 yards in the first half. Anthony Opet scored on a 2 yard run with 5:30 left in regulation time.

The Gators defense allowed Hiram into Allegheny territory only once in the 2nd quarter, reaching the Gator 41, the Terriers did not pass midfield in the 2nd half.
 

Allegheny ends 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the NCAC. Hiram finishes 0-10, the Terriers have lost 18 straight games.
 

California 56 – Millersville 26
Peter Lalich returned to the lineup to throw for 4 first half touchdowns as the Vulcans cruised to a home win, but it will likely not be enough to put Cal into the NCAA D-II playoff field for a 6th straight season.

Terrill Robinson opened the game with a 92 yard kickoff return and a 7-0 lead 11 seconds into the game. Jeff Knox scored 4 1/2 minutes later on a 4 yard run to put Cal up 14-0. Ian Sadon answered with a 2 yard run but Lalich connected with Mike Williams for a 68 yard touchdown one play later and a 21-7 Cal lead after 1.
 

The 2nd quarter was the Lalich show, he had missed the last 4 games due to injury. Lalich hit Williams for td's of 9 and 39 yards, he hooked up with Trey Johnson for 30 yards with 1 minute left in the half, Cal led 42-7 at the break.
 

Ted Stachitas hit Dominic Sanders for a 10 yard td early in the 4th, Lamont Smith answered with a 20 yard run for Cal. Sadon scored his 2nd td on a 2 yard run, Cody Schroeder came on and tossed a td pass to Casey Teagarden for 36 yards. Sadon scored on a 1 yard run in the final minute.
 

Cal ends 8-3, Lalich was 17-27 for 270 yards. Williams had 9 catches for 156 yards. Millersville was led by Sadon with 106 yards on 25 carries, Mike Jones had 11 catches for 122 yards, Millersville ends the season at 2-9.

West Chester 33 – Clarion 12
Rondell White ran for 227 yards and a td as West Chester wins the Golden Battle at Memorial Stadium.

The Golden Rams led 6-0 in the 2nd on two Shawn Leo field goals, he would boot 4 on the day. Mike Mattei hit Erick Brundidige for a 26 yard td and White scored on an 11 yard run to lead 20-0 at the half.
 

Leo added 2 more field goals, Clarion got on the board with 5:41 remaining in the game on a Ben Fiscus 64 yard pitch and catch with Nick Perry. Brandon Monk scored on a 6 yard run, Ken Johnson came on and hit Anthony Becoate for a 33 yard td in the final minute.
 

West Chester finishes 7-4, Clarion 4-7.

Kutztown 47 – Edinboro 21
The Fighting Scots led 21-14 at the half but did not score again as the Golden Bears finish the season with a strong road win. Kevin Morton, a Harlon Hill finalist, threw for 369 yards and 3 touchdowns on 38-50 for Kutztown.
 

Cody Harris put Edinboro on the board first with a 32 yard td pass to Ben Eisel. Alec Gluvina returned a Morton fumble 20 yards and the Fighting Scots were up 14-0. Zach Snyder scored on a 4 yard run to put Kutztown on the board. Morton scored from 1 yard out to tie the game with just under 11 minutes remaining in the half. Harris hooked up with Eisel again, this time for a 26 yard td with 11 seconds left and Edinboro was looking good heading into the locker room.
 

Morton tied the game on the opening drive of the 3rd, hitting Kodi Reed for a 5 yard td. After a field goal, Morton connected with Brett Fox for 18 yards and a score in the opening minute of the 4th, Curtis Wortham tacked on a 13 yard run and Morton went to Shahaid Smith for a 10 yard score.
 

Wortham carried 17 times for 98 yards. Fox had 8 catches for 104 yards, Snyder 7-103. Kutztown ends 6-4. Harris was 30-45 for 259 for Edinboro, Eisel had 8 catches for 105 yards. Edinboro finishes 4-6.
 

Mercyhurst 52 – East Stroudsburg 45
Brandon Brown-Dukes scored on a 21 yard td run with 1:17 remaining in regulation time to give the Lakers the win at Tullio Field. The teams combined for 97 points and 1,056 yards of offense.

The Warriors scored first, Matt Soltes hitting Robert Bleiler for a 75 yard td pass on the first play from scrimmage. Anthony Vendemia answered with a 16 yard run for the Lakers. Steven Wakefield gave Mercyhurst the lead with a 27 yard field goal.
 

Thomas Tippett scored 30 seconds into the 2nd on a 1 yard run, capping a 86 yard drive. Vendemia hit Devyn Woods for a 44 yard td. Soltes came back with a 16 yard scoring pass to Shawn Jones, but Vendemia hooked up with Woods again, for 13 yards and a 24-21 Lakers lead at the break.
 

Vendemia and Woods found each other for a 3rd time, this time a 40 yard touchdown early in the 3rd. Taylor Groff kicked a 33 yard field goal for ESU, but Paris Bruner returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards, Allen Jones added a 46 yard run and the Lakers were up 45-24 after 3.
 

East Stroudsburg tied the game in the 4th, Soltes threw td passes of 8 yards to Eric Deery, 19 yards to Jordan Hallman and 41 yards to K. Williams. But Brown-Dukes sent the home crowd home happy with his td to win it.
 

Vendemia was 16-24 for 379 yards. Woods had 9 catches for 215, Bruner 5-144. The Lakers finish 9-2. Soltes was 24-42 for 394 yards and 5 scores. Bleiler had 6 catches for 137 yards. ESU falls to 5-5.

Gannon 45 – LIU Post 6
Liam Nadler threw 4 touchdown passes and Jansen Jones and Joe Sobucki each scored twice as the Golden Knights cruised to the win in downtown Erie.
Nadler hit Jones for a 8 yard td for the only score of the 1st, Jones scored on a 2 yard run and Sobucki caught a 58 yard td pass in the 2nd for a 21-0 halftime lead. Nadler hit Justin Caliste for a 58 yard td and found Sobuck for 49 yards in the 3rd. Jeff Mack scored on a 1 yard run for the Pioneers. Everett Tune ran for 69 yards to the 2, he scored one play later to finish the scoring.

Nadler finished 23-34 for 335, Caliste had 8 catches for 137 yards. It was the final game for LIU Post in the PSAC, they are leaving after this season and will be replaced by Seton Hill. Both teams finished 3-8.
 

Grove City 21 – Thiel 7
In the 29th Mercer County Cup matchup, the Wolverines won their 6th straight trophy and finish the season with a 6-4 record.

Brian Pell connected with Anthony Ritchie for 2 scores, a 10 yard td in the 1st and a 13 yard td in the 2nd. Josh Potter scored on the opening drive of the 3rd for the Tomcats, on a 9 yard run. Thiel had a chance to tie the game, driving to the Grove City 10 on the next possession, but Potter fumbled, Jason Ferguson recovered for the Wolverines. 
 

Pell scored on a 4 yard run for Grove City with 10:57 remaining. After the score, Thiel again came up empty, driving to the 3 yard line, but turned the ball over on downs. Ferguson intercepted Smith on the Tomcats' final possession at midfield.
 

Pell threw for 141 yards, he ran for 94. Shane Kaclik was held to just 70 yards on 19 carries. Potter carried 18 times for 139 yards for Thiel, Taylor Fink added 103 yards on 14 carries. Thiel ends the season at 3-7.
 

Bethany 54 – Saint Vincent 27
Matt Grimard threw for 4 touchdowns and ran for two as the Bison cruise to the home win, jumping out to a 34-0 lead to take the Green Game.

Grimard scored on a 11 yard run and Brandon Hill a 4 yard scamper in the 1st. Grimard hit Marcus D'Aguiar for a 52 yard td and Ed Holmes for a 21 yard score. Michael Howcott recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown and the rout was on.

Matt Deakins hit Alex Charles for a 70 yard td for the Bearcats, Grimard hooked up with Holmes for 37 yards and Deakins connected with Ricky Douglass just before the half for 25 yards.
 

Ryan Crawford scored on a 9 yard run for the Bearcats in the 3rd, but Grimard scored on a 2 yard run, he hit Cam Cooper for a 79 yard strike with 36 seconds left. Deakins had the only score of the 4th with an 8 yard pass to Matt Duffey.
 

Grimard threw for 290 yards and ran for 74. Bethany ends the season at 3-7. Deakins threw for 205 yards, the Bearcats used 3 quarterbacks. Charles had 4 catches for 122 yards. Saint Vincent has lost 11 straight and finishes 0-10.

Robert Morris 21 – Sacred Heart 17
Head coach Joe Walton bypassed a game-tying field goal attempt and went for the win in the game's final minute. Nick Groat caught a 2 yard td pass from Jeff Sinclair with 35 seconds left for the win for the Colonials.

Sacred Heart led 10-0 in the 2nd quarter on a Pat Casey 4 yard touchdown catch from Luke Wischnowski and a field goal. Greg Langer kicked a 24 yard field goal in the second and added a 27 yarder in the 3rd.
 

The Pioneers added to their lead when Sinclair was picked off by J.D. Roussell and returned for a 14 yard td. But Robert Morris came back, Sinclair hit D.J. Pearson for a 4 yard td pass with 9:32 left in regulation time, the duo also connected on the 2-point play to bring RMU within 3 and set up the game-winning drive.
 

Sinclair struggled, he was just 11-25 for 145 yards, with 4 interceptions. Evan Taylor ran for 78 yards on 14 carries. Robert Morris is 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the NEC.
 

Keshaudis Spence ran for 113 yards on 21 carries for Sacred Heart, the Pioneers fall to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the NEC.

Albany 38 – Duquesne 31
The Dukes trailed 35-7 at the half, but came up just short in the comeback attempt at Rooney Field. The Great Danes posted 309 yards on the ground and controlled the football for 34 minutes to go to 8-2 overall, and 6-1 in the NEC, keeping their title hopes alive.
 

Albany would need to defeat Central Connecticut State at home next week and have Wagner lose at home to Duquesne to claim the conference title. If both win or lose, the Seahawks would be the NEC champs and get the automatic bid into the FCS playoffs.
 

Drew Smith opened the scoring in the 1st on a yard run, Omar Osbourne scored from 3 out 57 seconds into the second to give the Great Danes a 14-0 lead. Larry McCoy put Duquesne on the board with a 2 yard run, but Kevin Chillis scored on a 34 yard scamper and Will Fiacchi on a 10 yard run, Fiacchi hit Cole King for a 23 yard td with 6 seconds left in the half for the big lead.
 

Sean Patterson hit Gianni Carter for a 22 yard td in the 3rd, Charlie Leventry kicked a 26 yard field goal and Patterson scored from 4 out to cut the lead to 35-24. Sean Kenny kicked a 30 yard field goal with 2:12 to go, Duquesne scored late, Patterson to Sean Brady with 11 seconds left on a 10 yard pass, the Dukes could not recover the onside kick attempt.
 

Smith ran 25 times for 143 yards, Osbourne added 80 yards on 18 carries. For Duquesne, McCoy had just 69 yards on 20 carries. Patterson was 18-38 for 286 yards, he was picked twice. The Dukes are 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the NEC.

Saint Francis 45 – Monmouth 31
John Kelly threw for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Red Flash go to 4-6 overall, the most wins in a season since the move to Division I FCS play.

Keion Wade scored on a 1 yard run on the opening possession, capping an 87 yard drive. K.B. Asante scored on a 37 yard run to knot the game at 7. That lasted 16 seconds as Dane Domonkos took the kickoff back 97 yards to the house, Josh Theil added a field goal and Saint Francis led 17-7 after 1.
 

The 2nd quarter saw 31 points scored, Kelly started it off by hitting Dan Conley for a 2 yard td. Anthony Abeid added a 27 yard run to make it 31-7 SFU. Julian Hayes scored on a 2 yard run for the Hawks, Kelly hit A.J. Alexander for a 16 yard td, and Eric Spillane kicked a 29 yard field goal, Saint Francis led 38-17 after 30 minutes.
 

Kyle Fraizer hit Neal Sterling for a 5 yard td in the 3rd, Kelly scored on a 11 yard run on the first play of the 4th. Andrew Sutton returned a punt 27 yards for a td for the Hawks to close the scoring.
 

Abeid carried 18 times for 119 yards for the Red Flash. Alexander had 6 catches for 110 yards. Fraizer threw for 246 yards on 25-40. Monmouth falls to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the NEC.
 

Glennville State 58 – Seton Hill 2
The Griffins fall to 0-11 with the loss in their final game in the WVIAC, they will head to the PSAC West next season. Seton Hill will take a 13 game losing streak into 2013.

Rahmann Lee had a monster afternoon for the Pioneers, registering 301 yards on the ground and five touchdowns in the victory. He averaged 15.8 yards per carry, picking up his total in just 19 runs. Justin Feagin threw for 80 yards and a touchdown to Robert Jiles. Ronnie Mills rushed for a score for GSC, finishing 6-5 overall and 6-2 in the WVIAC.

The Griffins totaled just 293 yards of offense in the game. Andrew Jackson threw for 188 yards, with 100 going to DJ Carter on nine receptions.
 

Case Western Reserve 36 – Carnegie Mellon 24
The Tartans were shutout in the second half and fell in the 29th Academic Bowl in Cleveland.

The Spartans led 10-0 after 1 on a Billy Beecher 1 yard run and a Cullin Brown 33 yard field goal. Rob Kalkstein put CMU on the board with a 26 yard pass to Tim Kitka. Jared Delello scored on a 3 yard run and Sam Thompson returned a punt 56 yards for a score to put the Tartans up 21-10. Eric Olsen scored on a 1 yard run with 44 seconds left, the Tartans were able to get a Connor Young 19 yard field goal on the final play of the first half.
 

Olsen hit Vinny Bell for a 32 yard td in the 3rd, the two pointer failed, but Beecher scored on a 9 yard run, this time the two point try worked, Beecher added a 34 yard td run with 2:12 to play.
 

Kalkstein was 16-32 for 173 yards, the Tartans were held to just 47 yards rushing. Timothy Swanson had 5 catches, Kitka 4 for CMU, the Tartans finish 6-4.
 

Manny Sicre ran 26 times for 107 yards, Beecher had 68 yards on 8 carries. Olson finished 14-22 for 214 yards. Case Western also finishes 6-4.
