District College Football Recap for Saturday, October 10

Week 6 of the district college football slate saw some blow out wins again. In the PSAC, Clarion is off to their best start in over 30 years, while Slippery Rock used balance to get back into the West Division race.

In the PAC, both Thomas More and Case Western remain un beaten, while Westminster is off to a strong start in the conference.

Here are recaps of ALL the games:

Sacred Heart 26 – Robert Morris 13
The Pioneers took advantage of 8 Colonials turnovers to claim the win. RMU did not score an offensive touchdown and was held to minus 7 yards rushing.

RJ Noel got Sacred Heart on the board with a 36 yard td pass to Jalyn Croom in the final minute of the first quarter. Ose Imeokpana added a 1 yard run in the second. Jimmy Masson got RMU on the board with a 49 yard Pick 6. Noel scored with 18 seconds in the half on a 6 yard run as Sacred Heart led 20-6 at the half.

Dante Satcher returned the second half kickoff 96 yards for a score but that was it for RMU. Alec Finney kicked 2 field goals for Sacred Heart to close the scoring. Noel was 21-40 for 222 yards. Sacred Heart is 3-3 overall, 1-0 in the NEC.

Luke Brumbaugh(Seton LaSalle) got the start for Robert Morris, going 10-24 for 132 yards and 3 interception. Leading rusher Rameses Owens was held to 4 yards on 4 carries. RMU is now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the NEC.

Duquesne 53 – Alderson Broaddus 18
Dillon Buechel(Montour) threw for a career high 5 touchdowns as the Dukes pick up the home win over the D-II opposition.

Buechel connected with Chris King for 3 scores, he also hit Wayne Capers(Char Valley) for a 65 yard score.  The sophomore was 2133 for 297 yards. King had 8 catches for 128 yards. The Dukes are now 4-2 overall.

Alderson Broaddus got their only touchdown with 2:10 remaining on a Marcus Anderson 100 yard kickoff return. That didn’t last long as Nehari Crawford went the distance on the ensuing kickoff for the Dukes. Alderson Broaddus is now 5-1 overall.

IUP 47 – Seton Hill 10
Lenny Williams(Sto-Rox) threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for another as IUP maintained a share on first place in the PSAC West. The quarterback ran for 205 yards on 16 carries, he also threw for 157 yards. Chris Temple added 78 yards on 27 carries for IUP, now 4-1 overal and 3-0 in the division.

Jarvis McClam had a 92 yard kickoff return for Seton Hill, now 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the division.

Slippery Rock 56 – California 21
In front of a packed Homecoming crowd at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, the Rock led 35-7 at the half and knocked the Vulcans out of first place in the PSAC West Division.

SRU posted a balanced attack, running for 297 yards and QB Dante Nania(Hempfield) threw for 312 in the vicyory. The Rock is now 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the division.

Slippery Rock opened the first drive of the game with a score as Julian Dutden(Montour) went in from 4 ouy. Cal answered on their first possession with a John Franklin 2 yard run. The Rock countered that in just 42 seconds on a Nania to Jaimire Dutrieuille 74 yard bomb.

The Rock exploded in the second quarter with 21 points, Nania with a 2 yard run, then a 45 yard pass play to Marcus Carter(New Castle). Nania wasn’t done, hitting Cornelius Raye(Allderdice) for a 16 yard score.

Nania and Shamar Greene(West Mifflin) continued the Rock attack in the third with touchdown runs. Jordan Bowman scored on a 40 yard punt return for Cal, Another West Mifflin product, Jimmy Wheler added a 18 yard run for Cal. Durden scored on a 21 yard run to close out the scoring.

Nania was 18-28 passing for 3 touchdowns. Durden had 10 carries for 106 yards, Greene added 92 yards. Dutrieuille had 3 catches for 120 yards.

For Cal, James Harris was picked off 3 times, he finished 24-44 for 390 yards. Kowan Scott had 7 catches for 143 yards. Luke Smorey made 5 grabs for 122 yards. Yhe Vulcans are now 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the West. 

Gannon 16 – Mercyhurst 13
The Golden Knights rallied for 10 points in the final frame in the battle for Erie. Karch Holland kicked a 30 yard field goal with 70 seconds to play to give the Golden Knights their first win in divisional play.

After a scoreless first, Gannon QB Liam Nadlergot his team on the board with a 10 yard touchdown pass to Jesstin Hamm. Mercyhurst scored twice in the third on a Brandon Brown-Dukes 3 yard run and a Zach Emerick(Penn-Trafford) 1 yard run. Emerick came on at QB for the Lakers when Brendan Boylan suffered a shoulder injury on the fourth play of the game.

Nadler scored on the first play of the fourth on a 5 yard run. The teams traded field position until the go-head kick. Ercyhurst drove to the Gannon 44 and on the last play heaved a pass for the end zone, intended foe Jaquan Williams(Penn Hills). Db Mike Zanders wrestled the ball away and Gannon takes home the Niagara Cup up State Street for the first time since 2011.

Gannon, now 1-2 and 4-2, was led by Brock Jones with 105 rushing yards on 15 carries. Nadler was 20-37 passing for 290 yards. Hamm had 11 catches for 152 yards.

Brown-Dukes led the Lakers, now 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the West, with 90 yards on 22 carries.

Clarion 36 – Edinboro 23
A pair of former WPIAL players helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 6-0 overall record and a share of the West Division lead. Matt Lehman(Burrell) caught 2 touchdowns and Delrece Williams(Steel Valley) ran for 146 yards and a score to spoil Homecoming for the Fighting Scots.

QB Connor Simmons threw for 345 yards and 4 touchdowns, Lehman now has 12 td catches on the year. Clarion led 13-3 after 15 minutes, on two Simmons td passes to Kevin Genevro. Jake Sisson scored on a 6 yard run early in the second foe Edinboro, but Simmons connected with Lehman in the final minute of the half to put Clarion up 19-10.

Simmons and Lehman would hook up again on the opening play of the fourth for a 29-10 lead. Sisson hit James Clark for a 30 yard td for Edinboro, but Williams put the game out of reach with a 57 yard run.Sisson added a late touchdown run for Edinboro, now 0-6.

The 6-0 record for Clarion is the best start since 1983, the Golden Eagles try and equal that mark at home against Seton Hill next Saturday.

Thomas More 44 – Geneva 14
Javid Ellis scored the first and last touchdowns of the game for the GT’s. In between #11 Thomas More scored 44 unanswered on the way to a 6-0 record. Tyler Vogelpohl and CT Tarrent each had 2 touchdowns in the win. 

Tarrent carried 19 times for 172 yards. Backup QB Brenan Kuntz ran for 108 yards and a score, he threw for 247 and 2 scores. Goose Cohorn had 8 catches for 144 yards. Thomas More is 4-0 in the PAC.

Ellis carried 10 times for 77 yards, the GT’s are 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the PAC.

Case Western Reserve 45 – Waynesburg 14
Rob Cuda ran for 3 scores as the Spartans jumped out to a 21-0 lead. Cuda added 3 more td passes as Case Western goes to 4-0 and remains tied with Thomas More for the PAC lead. Cuda was 25-28 for 268 yards. Brendan Lynch(Freeport) had a td catch. The Spartans are 4-1 overall.

Jake Dougherty threw a td pass to Willie Leavell for Waynesburg, now 2-4 overall. Austin Wilson also scored on a 56 yard run. The Yellow Jackets are 1-3 in the PAC.

W & J 55 – Grove City 7
Pete Coughlin(Upper Saint Clair) threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for a score as #19 W & J led 21-0 after one quarter as the Presidents go to 4-1 overall. Ryan Ruffing(Thomas Jefferson0 ran for 2 second quarter scores, Daniel Lis(Char Houston) scored his second td of the game on a 68 yard punt return.

Backup QB Alex Rowse(Beaver) played the entire second half and threw for 2 scores. Ruffing carried 19 times for 102 yards, W & J is now 2-1 in the PAC.

Backup QB Caleb Jakiel(Moon) threw a touchdown pass to Gabe Greco(New Brighton) for Grove City’s only score. The Wolverines are 0-5 overall, 0-3 in the PAC.

Westminster 49 – Thiel 6
The Titans led 42-0 at the half. Wayne Seamans(Union) recorded a 25 yard pick ^ 59 seconds into the game and it was smooth sailing for the Titans.

Shannon Walker ran for a score and threw for 2 more for Westminster, now 4-2 overall. Freshman Bryson Paulinellie caught both td’s, he also returned a punt 56 yards. The Titans defense added another score when Todd Jeter(Gateway) returned an interception 37 yards. Dominique McKinley(Greensburg Salem) ran for 186 yards as a score. The Titans are 3-1 in the PAC.

Nick Black scored on a 6 yard run for Thiel, now 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the PAC. Thiel committed 5 turnovers.

Carnegie Mellon 56 – Bethany 35
Andrew Hearon connected with John Prather  for 3 touchdowns as CMU goes to 2-3 overall. Hearon threw for 221 yards and 4 scores. Sam Benger ran for 201 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Tartans are 2-2 in the PAC.

Jalen Holmes(New Castle) ran 35 times for 144 yards and a score for the Bison, now 2-4 overall. Tyler Ambush had 8 catches for 203 yards for Bethany. Eric Blinn(Western Beaver), the PAC’s all-time leading receiver, had 13 catches for 100 yards and a score.

Lincoln Reyes threw for 368 yards and 4 scores, he was intercepted 5 times. Bethany is now 1-3 in PAC play.
