Franklin Regional senior lineman Andrew Devola experienced a special moment with his two brothers in the second game of the football season at Hempfield.

All three of the Devolas got into the game for a late series in the Panthers’ 49-26 win.

Devola is a two-way lineman who starts. Sophomore Cole Devola is a tight end, and freshman Dominick Devola plays quarterback.

“I couldn’t help but tear up a little,” Andrew Devola said in an X post.

FR girls take second

The Franklin Regional girls golf team came in aiming for a four-peat but settled for silver at the Westmoreland County Coaches Association Girls Golf Championship at Champion Lakes in Bolivar.

The Panthers shot 198, two shots behind Hempfield’s 196.

Gianna Johnson, the returning indiviual champion, shot 46 in the nine-hole tournament to take second.

Teammates Mia Snyder (48) and Athena Neuschwander (50) also finished inside the top 10.

Kimmich tees it up

Franklin Regional boys golf team manager Ben Kimmich played nine holes with his teammates during a nonsection match against Penn Hills at Meadowink.

Kimmich, who has Down syndrome, carded a 54 with his teammates supporting him around the front nine.

Franklin Regional coach Jeff Traphagen called Kimmich’s participation “one of the best days in FR golf.”

Kimmich also is a manager for the boys basketball team.

Horvath player of week

Westminster senior soccer player Brooke Horvath, a Franklin Regional grad, scored four goals, all in the first half, to pace the Titans to a 5-1 victory over Juniata.

She was named the PAC Offensive Player of the Week.

A Westminster player hadn’t scored four goals in a game since 2005.

Giesey coaching

Franklin Regional coach Scott Arnold added some goalkeeping knowledge to his staff this season by bringing on Megan Giesey as an assistant.

Giesey was an impressive shot-stopping presence at Penn-Trafford before a college career at Pitt-Johnstown.
