Greensburg holding parade to honor state champion Golden Lions cross country team

Greensburg Salem boys cross country will receive a heroes’ welcome 5 p.m. Sunday.

The team will be paraded through downtown Greensburg after winning the PIAA Class AA Cross Country Championship on Saturday. The team also was honored with a fire-truck parade on Oct. 25 when ther won the WPIAL title.

The Golden Lions are the first boys’ team in school history to win a state title. They join the 1993 girls cross country team and the 1998 girls’ volleyball team as state champions.

“I don’t know what to expect this time,” Greensburg Salem senior Dylan Binda said. “The parade for winning the WPIAL title was great. I’m eager to see what occurs. This is incredible.”

Dylan Binda, twin brother Cameron and Mark Brown led the way. The senior trio was helped by sophomore Ethan Kelley and junior Mason Jobe, who placed fourth and fifth for the team. Sophomore Quinton Gatons and junior Dom Zucco also contributed in the victory. Junior Noah Calisti was held out of the race with an injury.

“They all ran great,” Greensburg Salem assistant Jeremy Lenzi said. “It was the best they’ve run all season.”
