High school roundup for Dec. 14, 2018: Upper St. Clair rallies past Peters Township

Tanner Gensler scored a school-record 42 points as Upper St. Clair rallied to defeat Peters Township, 86-81, in a Section 2-6A boys basketball game Friday night.

The Panthers’ Chris Pantelis hit a game-tying 3-pointer with two seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Upper St. Clair (4-0, 1-0) trailed 34-25 at halftime.

Colin Cote had 28 points for Peters Township (2-2, 0-1).

Butler 75, McDowell 72 — Ethan Morton scored 32 points, and Mattix Clement had 20 as Class 6A No. 3 Butler (4-0) won a nonsection contest.

William Jeffress had 23 points for the Trojans.

Canon-McMillan 71, Bethel Park 45 — Luke Palma had 20 points, and Ethan Beachy added 17 for No. 5 Canon-McMillan (2-2, 1-0) in a Section 2-6A win.

Tommy DiRienzo had 23 points for Bethel Park.

McKeesport 77, Laurel Highlands 60 — In Section 1-5A, Deamonte Diggs had 25 points, and Christian Moore added 24 as No. 4 McKeesport (2-2, 1-0) earned a win.

Moon 53, West Allegheny 46 — Donovan Johnson had 22 points to guide No. 3 Moon (4-0, 1-0) to a Seciton 2-5A victory.

South Fayette 57, Thomas Jefferson 50 — In Section 2-5A, Conner Mislan tallied 23 points to guide South Fayette (4-0, 1-0) to victory.

Mars 75, Indiana 31 — Khori Fusco had 23 points to guide NO. 1 Mars (3-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-5A win.

New Castle 71, Hopewell 47 — Michael Wells scored 18 points, and Sheldon Cox added 16 as No. 2 New Castle (3-1, 1-0) won in Section 2-4A.

Beaver Falls 59, New Brighton 41 — In Section 1-3A, Jalen Vaughn had 21 points, and Gage McKelvey added 17 as Beaver Falls (1-3, 1-0) earned a win.

Aliquippa 72, Ellwood City 43 — MJ Devonshire had 17 points, and William Gipson and Zuria Fisher each had 14 as No. 2 Aliquippa (2-0, 1-0) won in Section 1-3A.

Lincoln Park 69, Riverside 40 — Keeno Holmes scored 24 points for No. 1 Lincoln Park (3-0, 1-0) in a Section 1-3A victory.

Keystone Oaks 73, Fort Cherry 60 — Frank Stumpo had 26 points as Keystone Oaks (2-1, 1-0) won in Section 2-3A.

Seton LaSalle 78, Avonworth 36 — Michael Bigley’s 19 points led No. 4 Seton LaSalle (4-0, 1-0) to a Section 2-3A victory.

Washington 60, Charleroi 46 — Dan Ethridge scored 21 points as No. 5 Washington (2-1, 1-0) picked up a Section 4-3A win.

Sewickley Academy 77, Mohawk 34 — Nate Ridgeway tallied 26 points, and Isiah Warfield added 22 as No. 1 Sewickley Academy (2-2, 1-0) won in Section 3-2A.

Quaker Valley 61, Wilmington 54 — In nonsection play Ryan Stowers scored 23 points to guide Class 4A No. 1 Quaker Valley (4-0) to victory.

Franklin Regional 60, Hampton 49 — In Section 3-5A, Nick Leopold scored 22 points, and Mike Klingensmith added 12 for the No. 5-ranked Panthers (5-0, 1-0), who have outscored opponents 298-206.

Josh Winek had 14 points to lead Hampton (2-2, 0-1).

Albert Gallatin 66, Greensburg Salem 54 — Nate English had 20 points, including four 3-pointers, as Albert Gallatin (1-3, 1-0) won in Section 1-5A. Dante Parsons scored 16 points to lead Greensburg Salem (2-2, 0-1).

Waynesburg 49, Mt. Pleasant 31 — Lucas Garber had 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists to lead Waynesburg (3-1) to a nonsection win. Chris King added 10 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

Nathan Kubasky had 13 points for Mt. Pleasant (0-4).

Southmoreland 60, Yough 55 — Class 3A Southmoreland (2-2) picked up its second win of the season as Riley Comforti scored 22 points and Cade Richter added 17. After the teams played to a 31-31 tie at halftime, the Scotties built the lead up to 10 (46-36) in the third before holding off the host 4A Cougars (2-2).

Jarett Bach led Yough with 28 points, including four 3-pointers, and Gamal Marballie added 15 points.

Ligonier Valley 78, Forest Hills 70 — Michael Marinchak had 23 points, and Matthew Marinchak and Marrek Paola each scored 19 as Ligonier Valley (4-0) won at the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cat tournament.

Valley 74, Steel Valley 66 — Five players reached double figures for the Vikings (1-2, 1-0) in a Section 3-3A victory.

Valley, which led 19-11 after a quarter, got a team-best 20 points from Nyjewel Carter to go with 15 from Deonte Ross, 14 from David Primus, 12 from Isiah Mangol and 10 from Roman Flenory.

The Ironmen had three players hit double-digit points led by Camden Polak with 22. Kameron Williams scored 15, and Steve Vehec had 10.

Riverview 64, Summit Academy 62 — Riverview improved to 3-0 for the first time in more than 15 years with a Section 1-2A victory at Summit Academy (1-3, 0-1). The Raiders led Summit Academy by nine entering the fourth quarter, but the Knights rallied to take the lead before Nate Black made a 3-pointer with less than three minutes remaining to put the Raiders ahead for good. Noah Black led Riverview with 20 points. Thanny Black added 14 points, and Gideon Deasy scored 12.

Highlands 73, South Park 46 — Luke Cochran connected on four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 20 points, and Johnny Crise had 16 points and 15 rebounds as the Class 4A No. 3 Golden Rams picked up their first win of the season in nonconference play. Antoine McDaniel chipped in with 11 points for Highlands (1-1). Keith Hutton led South Park (1-3) with 11 points.

Plum 54, Armstrong 47 — The Mustangs held a one-point lead after three quarters before Connor Moss scored six of his team-high 16 points in the fourth as Plum notched its first win in the Section 3-5A game. Lamar Whiting added 15 points for Plum (1-3, 1-0). Isaiah Price scored 17 points to lead Armstrong (1-3, 1-0).

Fox Chapel 52, Seneca Valley 45 — Arnold Vento scored 14 points to pace Fox Chapel (3-1) to a nonsection win over Seneca Valley (2-2). Ryan Kerr added 11 points for the Foxes. Zac Zajacs led Seneca Valley with 10 points.

Springdale 52, Northgate 38 — Michael Zolnierczyk had a game-high 21 points for Springdale in a Section 1-2A win. Ben Myford added 10 points for the Dynamos. Benjamin Brooks led Northgate (1-3, 0-1) with 11 points.

Deer Lakes 48, South Allegheny 43 — Jared Colton scored a game-high 23 points to propel Deer Lakes (3-2, 1-0) to a Section 3-3A win at South Allegheny (2-3, 0-1). Antonio Epps had 15 points for the Gladiators.

Sto-Rox 62, Apollo-Ridge 44 — Apollo-Ridge (0-5, 0-1) led by two at halftime, but Sto-Rox (3-1, 1-0) used a big second half to pull away for a Section 1-2A victory. Malik Smith led Sto-Rox with 24 points, and Dre Freuzley added 12. Keighton Reese fronted Apollo-Ridge with 14 points, and Klay Fitzroy added 10.

Shaler 72, Kiski Area 41 — Kyrell Hutcherson scored a team-high 12 points, but the Cavaliers (1-4, 0-1) dropped their Section 3-5A opener. Mekhi Reynolds scored a game-high 18 points to lead Shaler (3-1, 1-0).

Girls basketball

Oakland Catholic 79, Albert Gallatin 31 — Jayde Boyd had 20 points to lead No. 4 Oakland Catholic (4-0, 2-0) to a Section 3-5A win.

McKeesport 56, Yough 26 — Brianna Evans had 14 points and 14 rebounds as McKeesport (3-2, 1-1) won a Section 3-4A game. Jordan Pater had 13 points for Yough (1-4, 0-1).

Greensburg Salem 63, Valley 17 — Megan Kallock scored 23 points, and Abby Mankins added 18 as Greensburg Salem (2-3) rolled to a nonsection win. The Golden Lions led 25-7 in the first quarter.

Penns Manor 77, Ligonier Valley 24 — Mia Lynn had six points for Ligonier Valley (0-4, 0-2) in a District 6 Heritage Conference loss.
