High school roundup for Dec. 4, 2023: Behind 31 points from Megan Marston, Plum wins again

Megan Marston scored 31 points to lead Plum to a 62-38 girls basketball victory over Beaver on Monday in a nonsection matchup of teams that opened the season with undefeated weekends.

Riley Stephans added 10 for the Mustangs (3-0), who won a pair of games at the Freeport tournament. Samantha Springman scored 12 and Annsley Baker added 11 for Beaver (2-1), which won the Brentwood tournament.

Aquinas Academy 77, Mohawk 67 (2OT) – Violet Johnson led Aquinas Academy (3-0) with 20 points, Emily Fisher followed with 19 and Ellie Junker added 15 in a nonsection win in double overtime. Erynne Capalbo scored 21 points and Chloe Fadden had 18 for Mohawk (2-1).

Armstrong 48, Pine-Richland 29 – Emma Paul scored 21 points and Kyla Fitzgerald added 13 to lead Armstrong (3-0) to a nonsection win. Madison Zavasky scored 17 points for Pine-Richland (0-3).

Burgettstown 47, Apollo-Ridge 25 – Kaitlyn Nease scored 26 points to hit the 1,000-point mark for her career, leading Burgettstown (2-1) to a nonsection win. Sophie Yard scored 17 for Apollo-Ridge (2-1).

Burrell 66, Valley 4 – Casey Brancato led with 30 points, Julianna Fisher added 14 and Anna Clark had 13 for Burrell (1-0) in a nonsection win over Valley (0-3).

Canon McMillian 53, Albert Gallatin 23 – Nadia Davis scored 19 points, Lauren Borella added 14, and Sam Miller had 12 for Canon McMillian (2-1) in a nonsection win. Mya Glisan scored 10 points and Grayce Panos had nine for Albert Gallatin (0-1).

Connellsville 42, Uniontown 37 – Elizabeth Painter led Connellsville (2-0) with 13 points in a nonsection win. Geelece Ingram scored 16 points for Uniontown (1-2).

Ellis School 62, Hillel Academy 16 – Angelina Jones (16), Kallie Kristian (14) and Taelor Spencer (11) scored in double figures for Ellis School (2-1) in a nonsection win over Hillel Academy (0-1).

Ellwood City 58, Portersville Christian 54 – Kayla Jones had 20 points and Claire Noble scored 18 to help Ellwood City (2-1) edge Portersville Christian in nonsection play.

Frazier 72, Sto-Rox 32 – Allie Yauch led with 22 points, Chloe Harger and Taryn Bateman added 14 points apiece, and Malana Burton had 12 for Frazier (2-0) in a nonsection win over Sto-Rox (1-2).

Hampton 61, Deer Lakes 21 – Meghan Murray scored 24 points and Kat Milon added 17 for Hampton (1-2) in a nonsection win. Layne Loper scored eight points for Deer Lakes (1-2).

Jeannette 48, Springdale 37 – Venicia Vignoli and Mary Jones scored 16 points apiece as Jeannette collected a nonsection win. Adriana Allison added 15 for the Jayhawks (1-2), who are playing with five players on the roster. Ashlyn Ferderbar led Springdale (1-2) with 14 points.

Keystone Oaks 50, West Mifflin 33 – Bailey Rieg scored 21 points and made six 3-pointers and Peyton Hamilton added 11 points to lead Keystone Oaks (2-1) to a nonsection win. Savaughn Wimbs scored 13 points for West Mifflin (1-2).

Laurel Highlands 57, Brownsville 33 – Miya Harris scored 23 points and Ariyanna Sumpter and Aierra Jenkins added nine points each as Laurel Highlands (3-0) picked up a nonsection win over Brownsville (2-1).

Riverside 28, New Brighton 20 – DeLana Fox had nine points and five rebounds to lead Riverside (2-1) to a nonsection win over New Brighton (0-3).

Thomas Jefferson 57, Southmoreland 10 – Riley McCabe led Thomas Jefferson (1-2) with 17 points and Emily Hritz added 13 in a nonsection win over Southmoreland (0-2).

Waynesburg 72, Carmichaels 25 – Kaley Rohanna led with 28 points, Emma Kindervater had 15, and Addison Blair and Avery Davis added 10 points apiece for Waynesburg (3-0) in a nonsection win over Carmichaels (0-3).

Boys basketball

Greensburg Central Catholic 82, Ligonier Valley 36 – Franco Alvarez scored 20 points and Liam Gallagher contributed 18 for Greensburg Central Catholic (2-1) in a nonsection victory. Maddox Mignogna added 10 for the Centurions. Simeon Pope led Ligonier Valley (2-1) with 11 points.

Hopewell 74, New Brighton 54 – Zach Kovell scored 27 points and Aaron Dickhart and Zach Gigliotti added 10 each for Hopewell (3-0) in a nonsection win. Dylan Pushak and Brian Taylor scored 13 points and Dash Graham added 12 for New Brighton (0-3).

Southmoreland 76, Frazier 50 – Ty Keffer poured in 26 points to lead Southmoreland (1-0) to a nonsection win. Ronnie Collins and Wyatt Richter each added 14 and Noah Felentzer had 12 for the Scotties. Darian Bateman scored 14 and Brock Alekson added 13 for Frazier (0-3).

Uniontown 97, Washington 40 – Notorious Grooms hit for 27 points and Calvin Winfrey III added 22 as Uniontown (1-0) picked up a nonsection win. Jamire Braxton added 12 points. Ruben Gordon led Washington (0-3) with 19 points.

West Shamokin 58, Apollo-Ridge 36 – Braydn Rodgers poured in 23 points to pace West Shamokin (2-1) in a nonsection win. Karter Schrock led Apollo-Ridge (0-3) with eight points.

Hockey

Bethel Park 2, Seneca Valley 1 – Will Alborg and Anthony Karner scored to lead Bethel Park (5-3) to a Class 3A win. Ethan Lindberg scored for Seneca Valley (6-3).

Bishop Canevin 15, Sewickley Academy 1 – Brian Kalanish and Ryan Saginaw scored four goals apiece, Eion Tiernan had a hat trick and Aiden Malay had two goals to lead Bishop Canevin (8-0) to a Varsity D2 win. CJ Wright scored for Sewickley Academy (0-8).

Blackhawk 6, Wheeling Catholic 3 – Cody Woodward, Finn Conlon, Sam Haddox, Beck Harry, Owen Keister and Bryce Leiper scored for Blackhawk (6-1) in a Class A win over Wheeling Catholic (4-3).

Chartiers Valley 8, Moon 1 – Romeo Isoldi had a hat trick and Noah Callender had two goals and three assists for Chartiers Valley (10-0) in a Class A win over Moon (6-4). Brady Nairn, Tyler Herd and Dylan Shamonsky also scored for the Colts.

Mars 6, McDowell 3 – Ben Bowser had a hat trick and William Matusek added a goal and an assist as Mars (6-4) collected a Class A win. Ty Turner had a goal and an assist for McDowell (3-6-1).

Neshannock 10, Wilmington 0 – Micah DeJulia scored four goals and Giovanni Valentine had a hat trick for Neshannock (7-1) in a Varsity D2 win over Wilmington (2-6). John Moniodes, Brian McConahy and Ben Hamilton also scored for the Lancers.

Ringgold 12, Knoch 5 – Matt Sylvester registered a hat trick and an assist to lead Ringgold (3-3-2) past Knoch (3-6) in Varsity D2. Anthony Bonari and Phil Quattrone added two goals apiece for the Rams. Ethan Keller scored twice for the Knights.

Wheeling Park 8, Hampton 4 – Ian Richards had a hat trick and added an assist while Kaden Schnarr had two goals and two assists to lead Wheeling Park (8-3) to a Class A victory. Sean Sullivan had a goal and two assists for Hampton (2-8).
